Okay, I broke down and bought the book. The one by Kathy everyone recommends. If it is as good as everyone says it MUST be the best around. I hope so. I look forward to reading it.

On EBAY I noted they tried to sell the exam questions too but never told me they would not be out till December. I should be way beyond the test by then. They offered a deal so I bit only to find out it would not be delivered until December. After I ordered. In my mind this is very similar to stealing from me altough technically it is not. EBAY also tried to get me to sign up for some extended plan that gets me free shiping always. They placed the button right next to the free shipping stuff I already had so it looked like I needed to click to get my free shipping. Then when the final screen showed up they had taken the free shipping off and charged me but when I clicked free shipping again it showed back up. That pay for free shipping was also there. I also agreed to get the EBAY credit card for a $30 credit on this purchase, only when it came time to give it to me they said they needed to wait for more research and would not give me the card or the discount. Then I get a note saying the c card would arrive in a few days.

I used to like EBAY but it seems taking advantage of their customers is the way they plan to make more money. I think the only way to deal with EBAY is to refuse to pay for anything else.

They should realize that people who buy Cathy's book are not that dum. I did get a good deal on the book price wise.

You should lodge a dispute with ebay and/or paypal before it's too late.

You may be able to get your money back.

I didnt lose money. I just was gripeing cause they try to trick the customer into spending more than they need to for nothing. And it took 30 minutes for me to order the book cause of this. Plus I felt drained after I got upset at them.

The book itself is a good buy but it sucks that your buying experience was bad. For me a book shop is a stroll down 1 Km from my house, so I get to see what I buy. Ah ! nothing like the fresh smell of a book before my eyes devour it.

Hello again !

Thank you, Thank you Nik !

I have a question to everyone who may be reading this post...

What do you think about beginning my training for the Java 5 Certification by reading "Head First Java" by Kathy and Bert?

Could anybody give advice on the Logical sequence of books that must be read in order to achieve the best preparation for the SCJP 5 exam?

for example.

1st. read "Head First Java"
2nd. read "Sun C JP for Java 5"
3rd. --another book--
and so on...

I hope this isn't a stupid question....

Thank you very much in advance !

Hi Jose,
I have read Head First Java. Its a really good book. I had read it long back. I used K&B it covers everything. So i feel K&B is enough for exam point of view. Regarding Head First Java for exam i think other ranchers may help you who have used it.

Hello Nik !

Could you please tell me the exact title of the book you refer to as "K&B" ?

I hope it is not the one you have already mentioned, because in that case I'll probably be seen as "dumb"... But just in case it's a different one... I asked..
Thanks for your time and your kindness!
God Bless..

Hi Guys,

Here's what we had in mind for the 2 books you're talking about:

HF Java is for people who are new to Java - it helps to have a tiny amount of programming background, but it's really meant for people who don't know Java at all.

The SCJP 5 book is meant for intermediate to advanced Java programmers who are specifically studying for Sun's SCJP exam. So, if you already know Java, you won't need HF Java to study for the SCJP.

hth,

Bert

p.s. I suppose that if you don't know Java at all, and you want to take the SCJP exam, you could buy HF Java first, and then get an SCJP book - that would make us very happy

Hey Bert!
What an honor to exchange messages with someone as powerful as yourself!

Then the happiest of human beings you will be, since I'm ordering both books...

I'm taking this unique opportunity to ask which one do you think is the best Free Online mock exam for Java 5?

Once again, what a pleasure !

God Bless you sir...
Thank you very much.

Hi Jose,

I'm happy indeed

I must confess that I haven't looked at a lot of the other mock exams. I think this question has been answered recently by others who have compared mocks, so you might try searching older posts in this forum, or opening up the question to other ranchers

Good luck in your studies, stick around the ranch, and ask lots of questions here!

Bert

Howdi partner!

Bert, Sincerely... thank you very much man! Somehow I feel blessed on my quest to obtain SCJP by just having the unequaled opportunity of having my posts replied by you !

Sure, I'll stick around... I'm just getting started, and probably will have some questions to ask (hopefully not sO many).

Take care and give my regards to Kathy... in case you happen to see her.
God Bless you!

Over on amazon they have it for $33 and the JAVA first for $30. I think you get free shipping too.

I hope I didn't say EBAY earlier. I meant amazon.com.

What do you mean? Do you mean that the EBAY in your original post is really meant to be Amazon? If so please edit and correct your original yourself.
