This is my holy grail. My friend works as system support at the Juilliard School of Music (my alma mater) and he says a programmer who works there has three 10-15 hour consulting positions that he holds down. I was really hoping to find either two of those, or one bigger one. (As for what I do with the rest of my time, my alma mater should be a clue).
But I'm finding these positions to be elusive quarry. I've gotten a lot of fulltime offers but nothing part time like I need. I figured there would be web design houses that just needed some Java now and then for a project, or something like that.
I hope someone will let me know if I'm barking up the wrong tree. Right now I do some freelance web design, and pop in at this bank two nights a week where I do some graphics work. It works well, but I'd rather use my Java skills. Is there any chance I could get a similar gig programming? Or do I seriously have to re-evaluate my situation?
Thanks for your input.
Eric B.

Try some web-sites www.careerpath.com for example.
There is a site for just what you're looking for, unfortunatly it's on my home PC. Send me an email to remind me and I'll look it up for you.
My previous laptop never exploded like that. Read this tiny ad while I sweep up the shards.
