Hey Ranchers,

I am planning for SCJP. I have 2 years of work-ex in JAVA 1.3.2 and 1.4. I haven't used the Tiger(5.0). Is it a good idea to go for SCJP 1.4 first and then do an update for 5.0 ? OR considering my work-ex would I be able to pull out 5.0? Please help me to decide.

Rgds,
Jaideep

hi jai,

This thing is like, only you can decide what you 'want' to do....!! and not what you 'should' do...???

though you can do one thing first prepare the topics and concepts in Tiger well go for 1 or 2 mock exams for 5.0, see the results and then decide which one will be better for you???

I am sure after completing 5.0 syllabus you can easily pass 1.4.

So all i can say is go for that you can do it...!!!

Best of Luck!!!

It will take you more time, more money and more effort going for
SCJP 1.4 and then upgrade for SCJP 5.0

I think it will be more interesting to learn new concepts of
java 5.0(Generics, Auto-boxing/Unboxing, foreach, Variable arguments,...)
and go for SCJP 5.0

Good luck.

Depends on why you want to be certified. If you want to prove to yourself that you can learn the newest things, then take SCJP5.0. If you just want to be more marketable and say you are certified, then take the easier SCJP1.4

Hey All,
Thanks for sharing your views. I have decided to prepare for SCJP 5.0. Just would like to know how much percentage of syllabus in 1.4 and 5.0, is same or what all topics are new in Tiger?
