Why doesn't javaranch hide users email addresses. I mistakenly put in my email address thinking I might be able to get notifications. to my horror my email address was left in the open so as to speak

Just the thing for harvesters

At the very least your email address should only be available to registered users. and even then it should be obfuscated

I use a very simple javascript email hider
(Found Here) I am sure there are many other versions available.

I can provide the perl version if you want to add it to the forum software that way when a user adds their email its hidden from bots

I'm not sure what you are referring to here - could you please elaborate? Thanks!

To clarify: if you check "no" for "Keep your email address viewable to others when you post notes?", then your email address is not visible in your profile, and neither is it available from the posts you make.

Ahhhh sorry I didnt realise this also keeps the email address out of the public profile.

    My apologies for the mistake.
