Can somebody tell me how can i connect my application to the excel sheet and get the date from it.

What have you tried so far? I bet it wasn't trying Google or you would at least have found Java XLS, JExcelAPI and Apache POI, and an article on Java + Excel on Javaworld.com.

Just Google for the words java and excel and see for yourself in the first 4 links.
