JOB DESTRUCTION NEWSLETTER
by Rob Sanchez
www.ZaZona.com
---------------<<<>>>---------------
I called Sharon Begley and she was very easy to talk to, and eager to get more people that can tell her their story.
In addition to telling her my story, I just emailed her some documented proof that I was denied an interview with Intel because they preferred H-1Bs. I hope some of you contact her also.
------------------------------------
I have actually been trying to do an H1B column, but have hit a dead end in finding laid-off engineers who lost jobs at companies that have
hired large numbers of HiB's. For instance, people active in this issue tell me that workers are told to train their replacement (or risk
losing severance, etc.). If you can give me suggestions of individuals who can tell me their
own stories, I might be able to do something. Thanks---

Hi Natalie,
You should post this in Job Discussion forum. You will more actions there. Here in MD, people talk about nonsense.
If you have legal proof, then Intel is toast. It is not a nonsense stuff.
Regards,
MCao

There is a rumor that Verizon will strike in August. Word is it has something to do with the large number of H1 visa workers at the company.

Don't be so emotional Praveen .I searched for the keyword 'Java' on monster.com as well as monsterindia.com.In US there are more than thrice jobs than in India. Also remember that trasanctions take place both ways.American companies(where almost all management people are natives)are primararily responsible for this business. This ugly game of globalization has already started.

Can someone please clarify this for me? I was looking through labor department services for unemployed workers and came across this page, http://www.doleta.gov/h-1b "The H-1B Technical Skills Grant Training Program". Am I reading this right that there's actually a grant to train H-1B visa holders?
Im genuinely interested to know the answer. Thanks

The grant is used to train the us workers here. Its not used to train the H1-B.
I also want to ask the smae que to praveen..
Hmm.. wonder how Praveen got here in the US in the first place.. hmmm...
Now usa has a terrible shortage of nurses same as uk, so giving h1b to nurses from india. Now one has any problem . When there is a shortage of sw proff so many h1-b came here. now there is no more
shortage so everyone started cursing them.why to curse poor h1-bs. Curse what happened to economy..
Regarding the verizon, 70 to 80 percent of IT staff are indians. But who is making profit?
I wish for a house of programmers where there is no diff between caste, nationality and religion.
I mean "java programmer not a chinese java programmer or a indian java programmer.

Like Sunithas mentioned, this grant is financed by those employers who employ H-1Bs. The grant is available only to American citizens / permanent residents.

H-1B Skill grants are used for developing and operating high skill training programs for unemployed and employed workers. These grants are financed by fees paid by employers who bring skilled foreign workers into the U.S. under H-1B nonimmigrant visas.

A few of the organizations which are recepients of this grant are:

CUNY Research Foundation
on behalf of BMCC and the NYCWIB
199 Chambers Street
New York, NY 10007 $2,872,689

Hinds County WIB
420 E. Woodrow Wilson Drive
Jackson, MS 39216 $1,420,010

New York WIB/NYC Dept. of Employment
220 Church Street, 5th Floor
New York, NY 10013 $2,974,175

Cook County WIB
69 West Washington Street, Suite 2860
Chicago, IL 60602

BTW.. I would like to mention a positive development. TCS (the scum bag Indian Software giant.. ) has announced that they intend to set a goal of having 70% of their onsite staff comprising of American citizens / permanent residents. So you people might want to check out the website of TCS Americas.

Sunith raghu, Sriraj Rajaram
Thanks for the responses. Im going to read the text more carefully later; I did think that sounded a little too outrageous.
Sunith, Im sure you mean it sincerely when you say you wish for a programming society free from prejudices. But, in my opinion, unfortunately thats not happening in the US these days. I think that theres a strong bias in favor of Indian programmers. I think, that the American hiring managers, especially the less technical ones, have come to regard hiring an Indian programmer in some key technical position as a sure bet. I used to work in a shop where five out of six people conducting the technical interviews were Indians only the hiring manager and one other interviewer were Americans. The process involved a round table discussion of the applicants qualification and generally four or five votes went to some Indian applicant.
Thats not to say that my former Indian colleagues didnt have their own prejudices against each other. I noticed there was a woman who hated Moslems, so she strongly favored Indians who were not Moslems and, I would even say, close to her own social group (caste). Yes they did notice, discussed and cared about each others background and social group.
