How to configure 404 error

Hi

I am making an application in JSP and i want that like if user enters the URL for my page and somehow there come an error 404 , then i want that if 404 error come then it will automatically divert to other page and if 500 error come then it will diverted to some other page.

I have a hint that we have to some configuration in some configuration file , please tell me the whole procedure, that what we write and in which field we write.
