State jobs-agency work is outsourced to India

Some contract work for the state agency that helps Floridians find jobs is being done in India, according to documents obtained by a state senator.

The Agency for Workforce Innovation contracted in 2001 with what is now HCL Technologies Ltd.'s Massachusetts operation to create a computer system that would consolidate older programs.

But Campbell, D-Fort Lauderdale, said: ``It's the total antithesis of what they're supposed to be doing.''

''We'll have to go back to peasant life in the 19th-Century United States if we're going to eliminate the indirect aspects of globalization,'' he said. ``We'll all just be farmers and we'll sell to our neighbors and life will be great.''

Jeepers Creepers!

What next? I guess since all the jobs have been outsourced it made sense to someone to outsource the Unemployment agency.

The company is HCL Technologies(Mass) Inc. This company is (subsidiary) of this HCL

Hardly the first time. About 2 years back they outsourced the State employee benefits program to Convergys - which, while being a US company - is doing substantial amounts of the development work offshore.

While I normally could care less about the taxes I pay (which doesn't mean I won't take a deduction if I can ) - this always struck me as triple taxation.

1. I have to pay Florida taxes to fund the project.

2. The offshore workers don't pay Florida taxes because they're not working in Florida, so the taxes local contractors would pay don't cycle back into the state budget.

3. The offshore workers aren't buying that much from Florida businesses, so those tax revenues are also lost.

However, according to my calculations, if you visit Disney World, one day's admission will run you the equivalent of Rs 2591.99.

Not including Florida Sales tax, which should be about Rs 155 more.

Maybe Floridians should offshore their Governor.

Nah, like most Floridians, I believe Jeb Bush is the best governor this State has ever had. Just wish he would consider running for President.

Don't worry, he will, against Hilary, in the battle of the dynasties as America descends into true Imperial government.

I truly doubt it Peter. Seems to me he has ruled it out. After 8 years of George W I think the US will be ready for a change. I like Bush and think he's a good and possibly a great President (history will judge). But Bush fatigue is a reality and I think Jeb knows that. Maybe in 2016 or something.

My best guess is the GOP will nominate McCain or Rudy G. Either would be a big change. Hillary wouldn't be a complete disaster but I don't think she is electable. I'd like to see the Donkeycrats nominate Leiberman. And maybe after losing with Kerry they will see that at last.
