Well, personally I'm rather fond of recommending Google to people, so I don't see a big problem with your post in and of itself. Especially as it seems like good advice for this particular thread. But it is something that can be interpreted negatively, depending on context and history; I can see where Mark is coming from. If indeed you sincerely meant the advice to be helpful rather than belittling, why not just say as much in polite response to Mark in the original thread? Misunderstandings happen; none of us are immune. So far this doesn't seem like a big deal either way. Your post hasn't been edited or deleted - just commented on by Mark. If your intentions with the original post were sincere, then I'd advise simply continuing to post in that vein. Right now though, this seems to me like a case of crying "wolf" prematurely.
Mark, do you or do you not hire in the NY/NJ market?
One other thing that Mark and others know is what the IP address of the originator of these posts is. afroz pathan may or may not be a real person. With seven posts to his credit, it looks to me like he wandered up to the bar and started asking a bunch of questions.
I don't find my tone condescending. Is miss manners on the staff? Is my name not in compliance with the naming rules?

In retrospect the comment you made is open to multiple interpretations. However, given your hostility to foreigners, I had a feeling you were being less than kind in your words. If I'm wrong, than I appologize.
As to where I hire, I fail to see how that has any relevance.

I own this site. It doesn't matter if you find your tone condescending. It matters whether I find your tone "nice" - and therefore whether I choose to publish your words.
JavaRanch is a HEAVILY moderated site. I prefer that the staff, which have all proven to be good, decent, charming people in ***MY*** opinion (the one opinion that counts on this topic) and have come to trust them to a great degree, to delete first and ask questions later.

If you think there is a problem and you wish to assist the JavaRanch staff in resolving it, please send an e-mail to the forum moderator.
Of course, in this case, the moderator probably won't really care and nothing will be done. If these posts are not coming from a real person, then ... what ... a bot? some sort of spam machine? An interactive spam machine?

We encourage that here. Remember, this is a friendly place for Java greenhorns.
Is miss manners on the staff?
I will be playing the role of miss manners' evil twin if that is what you need.
Is my name not in compliance with the naming rules?
We were going to let it slide, but since you bring it up ... I want it changed to something compliant by the end of the weekend or I will close your account.

We have a lot of people that are able to contribute in a lot of very positive ways. None of their posts are ever deleted - thus they never cause any extra work for the staff.
In the past we have had some folks that "volunteered" a lot of stuff that we had to delete. It eventually became so much work that we banned them. The good news is that the staff is now free to spend more time talking about Java! [ May 13, 2006: Message edited by: Paul Wheaton ]
Mark, I accept and appreciate your apology. Your advice to the many on the job discussion board is always worth reading and right on the mark.

Boss, I been thinking about your post for a couple of days.
Maybe it would just be better if I resigned.
If I understand things, if I resign then you won't have to pay higher unemployment insurance premiums.
If it would not be asking too much could you think about the good times as well as the bad when and if somebody asks you about my time here?
I'm thinking of packing up my old truck and going to california, maybe make a new start.
I am going to try to get a job in a record store by the beach. I gotta find this song about how long before my soul gets things wright. A woman sings it. [ May 16, 2006: Message edited by: Homer Phillips ]

Trail Boss you have shown me your powers.
In the name of the apostle Paul, I call on you Thomas Paul to cast aside your sherifs garb. Uncloak yourself, come to me from across the darkness, show Mr. Wheaton that you are not his pawn. Show him that you are a soldier of God.
Please let use remind him that there is not just one rule - be nice. But that there is one true God.
Paul I pray you make the terminal in front of Mr. Wheaton display four characters.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory. for ever and ever.
