Hello All,
I work for an Indian IT company and am presently in U.S. I have 6 years of experience. I am being paid $2700/month after taxes(in PA). do you think this is a decent salary for a 6 yr experienced guy? I don't have any intention of getting settled in U.S. So would prefer to continue to work for an Indian IT company and be in U.S for an year or so. I would like to know in general the salary trends of Indian companies at Onsite (esp., US) for 6 yr experienced.

$2700 a month is peanuts(especially for someone with 6 years experience), if you take into account the cost of Living in America.I have friends making more than that in India.

I am sure that you are not working for Infosys, since they pay better.

If possible can somebody post /refer to a website which has the figures of salaries paid at Onsite by Indian IT concerns.

Onsite salaries are dependant on what visa you are travelling on. If you are on H1-B then you are supposed to get whatever a US person with your experience would have got. I believe the figure is 65-75 K per annum for a guy with 6 years exp in a moderately expensive place. For places like LA, New York, Boston the figure are much higher. This is a legal obligation and since you are getting much lesser, I assume you are not on H1-B.

If you are on B1 or L1, then it purely depends on the company. I think the industry standard is 50$ per day (1500$ per month). So considering that the figure you are getting is pretty neat.

I concur with what Victor is saying. Remember, USD 2700 is after taxes -- which is pretty good. A friend of mine on H1 is getting gross 50k/p.a. in Seatle.

$2700 after taxes for someone just out of school is a very high salary.
When I started back in '97 I made less than that BEFORE taxes, and even now I make less than that after taxes (and still I make more than average)...

Companies that provide $50 a day also provide accomodation + car.Atleast all the top indian companies do so.

$2700 might be good for a fresh grad,but for someone with 6 years experience?

I know what you are saying,I am in the UK myself.I totally agree with you....
1.Salaries here are lower than the US
2.Taxes kill you.
3.Cost of living is ridiculous.1 litre of petrol is for about a �1.
4.What would be worth $40 in US would be available for �50 in a sale in the stores.
5.You could rent a beautiful apartment with a pool for $1100 a month in the Bay area(CA) and in London for �700 a month you would get a run-down 1 bedroom apartment.

My friends in India are saving more than what I can save with a �� salary.Now,its quite clear that if you are really good you dont need to travel to the US or any other country ...you can get big bucks in India as well.This is one reason why the best people are now preferring to stay in India.

Needless to say that,not all people(incl me) will get great salaries in India and migration will continue,albeit,its both ways now....with people willing to make a marginal tradeoff with the salary, given the oppertunity to stay at home.

I am just curious about the leaders in the industry like infosys, wipro, CTS etc.,
Also, those companies which pay well.. do they have good onsite opportunities???

This would leave you guys to guess which company am in. not that important anyways.

I do not find any motivation to move to UK then. Any opinions???

That's actually weird. If you are on H1, salary equalization laws say that you should be paid at par with a US employee. If that is not the case, your company is violating laws.
Also what you may be missing is that your Indian salary is still active. Generally companies add up that to the US component and the resulting amount should be the salary of a person in the US.

In a country of a billion people there will be people who are not good enough to find salaries more than 10k a month in India.So what applies to one would not apply to all.

If you are that kind of person who can stay with 4 other guys in a cramped apartment and try to save every penny for 2-3 years,surviving a wet,cold,dull weather then you might want to consider this offer.

Unless you get a high paying job(>�45k)in the UK it probably doesnt make sense to move.

If you want to enjoy a high quality personal,social and professional life...stay in India.

If you can get a high paying job with a company like Yahoo,Microsft,BEA in India then it makes absolutely no sense to come here and work for a non descript company and live this kind of a life.

My 2p.....

Expat periods look good on your resume if nothing else, though in India where 90% of the trained workforce seems to be sent abroad (or tries to) the value is probably less than elsewhere.

It is quite possible that they are adding offshore salary + travel expenses + other things ( am not sure what they are ). But the ultimate thing is that it is less. Anyways, I think most of the Indian companies pay the offshore salary and take care of travel expenses too.
As said earlier, it would be better off staying in India. Unless one would like to visit foreign nations and save a decent amount of money.
The main reason for this question was to determine if I need to change my job for salary. I was thinking if the onsite salary paid by other software companies is almost comparable then i would better stay in the same. What do you say???

Hi Guys,

Instead of going to the US or England,
Try exploring somewhere in the Middle East especially in Dubai.
Good salary there and no taxes, and mostly all big companies have their
offices there.

Why don't you consider Bangalore? We pay high salaries, nice company, nice people.

Bangalore is too much conjusted.Additionally Muncipal corp giving permission to open the shop anywhere they see the open space.
