Banking/Finance Domain Companies in India

Can someone please give me a list of Banking/FInance Domain Companies in India like Polaris, Fidelity, Goldman Sachs, Iflex...
I have 2 Years of J2EE experience and particularly in look out of Finance Domain companeis because I have a commerce background(spend 5 years studying commerce from 10+1 to B.COM after which I did MCA).

Does past academic background matter when trying to enter into a company which specializes in a particular domain?

I recently received an offer from a company that specilized in telecom domain and I refused it thinking that as I don't have any Telecom knowledge, little knowledge of Maths and no knowledge of Physics, I won't be able to grow in this field. But my friends say I made a worng decision and you learn domain knowledge on job and past background does not matter. Are they right?

Also what other domains can be recommended for a person with commerce background apart for Finance?... Insurance?

What a Co-incidence ! even I have the exact profile as yours I mean commerce since 10+1 and then B.Com and finally MCA and after that 2 years of exp.

Anyways, you know I somewhat agre with your friends that domain knowledge can be learnt on the job but yeah I you really wanted that you should use your past experience somewhere I mean in software industry then you should go with some financial company.... but u know one more thing... The Studies of finance in india is a bit different from here in US and What Indian Software industry majorly is doing is developing for US rite. So Its very less use of commerce we studied. But then too I will say Its allways the base what matters if did MCA pretty well underdstanding all the concepts then it doesn't matters which domain u choose but choose the one where your interest lies.

Anjali if the Teleco company offer is good and its good company you might have accepted. As you start working you will gain domain knowledge.
Telecom is one of demanding domain along with BFI(Banking, Finance, Insurance)

Background does not count a dime in our IT.For example Analog Devices(A popular MNC which leads in Chip designing and Manufacturing).Some days back they have hired some programmers for working on their signal processing chips.(Signal processing is a part of EE curriculum).They preferred CS graduates(who are ignorant of Signal processing).The reason(according to them) was that CS graduates have greater Coding skills than EE ones.So they require dumb coder's who do not know a dime of the basics of the field.The algorithms were supplied to them and they were asked to code with out undersatnding the underlying aim.

As far as i know, banking and telecom have no commonality between them.So called 'domain expertise' is largely experience of using development tools.It has nothing to do with the subject or science.What else can explain people who have worked in banking for 2-3 years resorting to telecom for few additional rupees.This is the unfortunate reality of our IT.

telecom was touted as a new bubble(like dot-com boom) half a decade ago.Future is doubtful for this sector.

Actually, I haven't actually rejected the offer only asked for some time. I doesn't seem to be a known company. Its called Nevis Network in Pune.

Tha company is in Pune .

Supposed to be the leader in Core Networking . So the work must be GOOD .
So type of work should not be a problem .

Work Culture is also OK .

you can get into any domain that comes your way.
companies which really care for specialized domain knowledge that you dont posses will not hire you.
