Could you pl. suggest me how to insert an image in a column.From which I can fetch the image in the jsp page with the query.

You can copy the image to a location and save the absolute path of the image as text in the database.
This can be accessed from the jsp page.

there is another way to store the image in object otherthan the storing path of the image in database. i.e You can choose image as BLOB data type. u can work like this also. do as per your convinient.
