i am ramanathan and i have finished my mechanical and i wanna know r there good job oppurtunities for mechanical engineering grduated students. u know i work in a pvt industry, its a good industry, but they pay me only 3000 bucks a month, and they it is the best they could, and moreover i am in design. i dont know why there is a big differance bet the pay scale of an IT'ian and a mech'ian. any IT guy would earn atleast 10k. and look at us, we dont even get more than 5k. and i dont understand the logic behind this. if somebody could answer me to this, pls do write to me at "tallman_83@yahoo.co.in".
its not me is suffering now, its for all those mecha'ians who have graduated. and pls do tell me the reason behind this misery. i dont get wats the real idea, u know a guy who is an IT'ian who has scored less than me in his gradution, is earning 8000 bucks more than me. wats the point. is there no scope for mech'ians..............
this is all i wanna know..........

Its not only mechanical but other engineering graduates suffer too. This is the situation since last ten years.IT shops mainly work on foreign projects as a result of which their profits are in foreign currency. So they can spend much more on their employees.Requirements for setting up IT shop are minimal than setting welding shop.Mechanical engg. firms work on local/regional clients.Their investment is much more than equivalent IT shop making similar profit.Mech engg. companies make their profit in local currency.Hence they can't spend much on luxury of employees.

I can only speak from my interactions with Mechanical engineers in my company which is an automotive supplier in Detroit and also of my interactions with Production/Mechanical/Metalurgical engineers at the Big Three. Most of them are into automotive designing software tools like CATIA (there are other tools, COGNOS, I think but I am not sure). I believe CATIA has a very good demand in India as well as in US. Unlike the traditional programming languages or software CATIA requires technical automotive background which you would have. Also look into CAD/CAM. Consider companies like Bharat Forge which have good orders from the auto industry in US. Also, I believe TCS and Wipro have good auto designing software opportunities. I also have seen many Mechanical Engineers who have switched careers and are totally into IT and seem to be doing good. But I believe, it will be good in the long run if you can exploit your traditional strengths and combine them with IT skills.
All the best!

I think with a double degree in physics and mechanical engineering will help better.
