connecting Oracle on linux to windows

I need to connect to oracle-server(Linux) from application-server tomcat (Windows) both on different m/c, connection is through java web application using Type 4 driver

is by any chance i need to install oracle client(sqlplus) on windows m/c?

No U dont need to install Oracle Client to connect to the database. But u must have the jar file required for connecting like classes12.jar, ojdbc14.jar in ur machine and also in classpath.
