J2EE Contract Jobs in London

Hi,

I have just come to UK and yet to start Job Search. There are many J2EE jobs in London posted in www.jobserve.com for 4 yrs + experience.

Is the rate mentioned in the offer( �300-�400 ) true to expect? or is some percentage taken away by the Contractors?

No, not from the quoted or committed rate. What is offered to you is after the agencies have deducted their commission. This will be your gross and later on there are other deductions like tax and National Insurance contribution.

I am also eagerly looking for job in UK. Can any one help me out in that. I dont have work permit. I am having 3.9 Yrs Exp in Java/J2EE and currently working in a MNC. Is it easy to get a job for my profile in U K ?

Don't be optimistic in getting job in london, with out prior exp in uk.
here people wont consider your india exp and expect atleast some uk exp.
if you have min 6-12 months exp then you could easily get jobs in london.
many of my friends just come here on work permit ans searching for jobs since 6 months. but not succeed. best thing is to come here through a indian company and work for 6 months and then try. Now days london employers are ready to apply for workpermit once u clear the interview and having min 6 months exp in uk and total 5+ yrs exp.

Sorry Friends I have been out of the forum for more than a week.

Yes, what vijay said, seems to be the situation here in London. I have applied for a few jobs mentioned in jobserve. And I got some phone calls too. But none have called back. Though they said they will talk to the clients and get back to me about the interview. But I am going to keep trying..

One of the agencies asked me that they would negotiate with the client about my rate and how much I was willing to adjust ( I said �35 per hour). I guess that was a trick question. I said that �32 - �33 per hr was OK. Was I good enough to anwser this question? whats the most pratical answer I can give to such questions?

I usually agree to what agencies suggest initially to get the foot in the door for an interview (especially with the first job, too hard to be too picky) but depending on how well I do in the interview, I negotiate my rates after the interview. Once you have atleast 1 year of local experience then you will be in a better position to negotiate rates. I cannot comment much on the rates because, I am from Sydney.
