How is the consulting market for NYC? What is the average rate for a sr. software developer with 10+ years experience?

Thanks.

It ranges from about $30-150/hr. The higher end is in the financial services industry which will require prior experience. The typical developer will be in the $40-70/hr range.

Based on my professional/academic profile at www.rubens-gomes.com, what hourly rate can I ask for in NYC? How about other regions in the US? (Dallas, Atlanta, CA, DC)?

That all depends on many factors:

  • Are you an H-1B alien?
  • Individual contractor?
  • Consultant paid by a consulting firm?

  • If "Yes" to the first two questions, expect your rate to be as low as $30 - $50.

I would like to receive real practical data -- from actual consultants or who know consultants in those areas. Things like salary.monster or other internet sites are no good. Also, I am on a H1-B visa working for a consulting company. Thanks.
