Would it be a good idea to move from Mumbai to Hyderabad? Considering the number of jobs and the cost of living/property and also the new companies which are coming up in Hyederabad as well as the existing ones which are expanding there operations.

Whats the traffic like and what are the property rates like in Hyderabad?

Also what are the good companies for good J2EE work? Do these companies conduct telephonic interviews? I am a J2EE pro with @ 6 years of experience with 4 years in J2EE.

Any comments/advice would be greatly appreciated?

Yes,I think HYD is better than Mumbai. If you see Planning Commision statement,Mumbai or Maharashtra is on continuous decline interms of growth in IT or overall development.Semiconductors association of America will be investing heavily in Semi conductor fabrication plants in coming months. Many jobs will be created in/around HYD in near future. From many people I heard traffic is better than Bangalore/Mumbai.Real estate as of now is cheaper than other cities.

KJ Reddy will be in a better position to answer this.

I agree with Arjun. Hyd is better place interms of cost of living, transport.
No of jobs may be less compare to Blore, Chennai and Mumbai but there are quite good companies. But you need to worry about no of openings only if you are fresher.

There are quite good companies in Hyd and many of them do conduct telephonic interviews. To name few: DE Shaw, Oracle, CTS, Virtusa, Sataym, TCS, Visual Soft etc.,

Thanx,

yes it would seem so, it seems that the newer areas being developed in Hyderabad are well planned with excellent infrastructure.

As for the number of jobs, I checked on Naukri.Com the number of IT jobs in Hyderabad are same or more then in Mumbai and Bangalore and Gurgaon(NCR) have a lot more IT jobs then Mumbai.

If a person in new to Hyderabad, which area would be best to live in, are there residential areas close to HitechCity. What about the commuting time from other areas?

I have never heard of Virtusa, is it a good company?

Hi Liyaquat,

I just moved from Hyd to Chennai. I was with Virtusa in Hyderabad, to give you a one liner on virtusa. "It has one of the best work environments" .

The management is good too. They try to be as transparent as possible. The only drawback, if any, is that the opportunity of working abroad is not very bright  . I am not saying that it is not there, but it could be better

They are very employee centric, as I said earlier it is a great place to work

Anyways, good luck if you decide to move to HYD. Virtusa is NOT the only company

Thanx Venkatesh,

Thanx for the info on Virtusa, I had never heard of the company so wanted to know.

What was your reason for leaving Hyderabad and/or Virtusa? How do you find Chennai vis a vis Hyderabad?

I am in Mumbai right now and may think of Moving to Hyderabad with my next job change.

Is there anyone here who has worked in Mumbai and then moved to Hyderabad or the other way round???

Chennai is a much larger city when compared to Hyderabad. The travel factor is Bad here, I guess it would be a welcome change for you too, to move from Mumbai to Hyderabad... just speculting here man

If you plan to work in or near cyber towers, you can take a room in areas such as Madhapur,Kondapur,S.R. Nagar. Remember do not pay a dime more than two months rent as advance. The rent in above areas is little bit inflated.

If you are ready for a travel of 10-15km to your office, you can get a 2BHK for Rs.2500/- per month.

Now we'r talkin the right stuff,

Thanx Ramesh,

I suppose you are refering to the north west part of Hyderabad, are the major IT parks and big companies centered around this area?

Which area would be 10-15 km from cyber towers? How long do you think it'll take to commute during rush hour.

You are deep into geography . I do not know whether it is to north or west, it is near the IT hub. A new highway was constructed at that place. You will amazed to see that road.

Areas like Koti,Malakpet and Dilsukhnagar (actually about 15-20 km). I assure you can reach the office with in 1 hour if you can arrange your own means. But the situation is not so rosy while coming back. Count out 90 minutes.

BTW, it would be comfortable if you have your base near the working place.
