I am curious about the book you're giving away! What I have found interesting till now and can strongly recommend is Rod Johnson's "Expert-to-expert J2EE Design and development".

It covers most of J2EE problems, but also flashes general server-side programming issues with a real professional and systematic approach. For me - it is a must for every J2EE specialist.

It is obvious that the 2 books focus on different areas.

J2EE big picture focuses on high level detail for each J2EE components. It maybe used by people who may have less experiences on J2EE, such as top management, or newbie.

The Expert-to-Expert book, as its name implies, it focus on expert developers to solve development problems.

Thus, it is difficult to compare apples and oranges.

ehm,
i agree on both.
Expert .. - is a wonderfull book, and a must have. Definitively in a different league.
The j2ee big picture is an overview. The point where they seem to come together is the chapter (something like) is j2ee allways your cup of coffee in the morning.
From what I understand is that this discusses design decisions, like to ejb or not to ejb. So that might be overlapping, but otherwise they are different. (and for a different audience, like apples and the wellknown oranges)

I think Big Picture and Expert to Expert are probably complementary but wayyyyyyy different. ;>

Toc for Big Picture is here.
http://www.bigpicture-books.com/bigpicturetoc.pdf

Written in a very accessible way for people who aren't programmers, or for people who aren't J2EE programmers yet.
