It's an interesting idea - but I think you need to clarify what you mean by Web 2.0 - I guess you mean the technologies? This is JavaRanch - so there's a Java focus.

When I think of Web 2.0 technologies, I don't particularly think of Java (RSS, AJAX, wikis, blogs, mashups, etc)

I have no much idea about Web 2.0 , but I guess that posts would mostly revolve around javascript ,AJAX and for that there is already a forum available.

Does "Web 2.0" actually mean anything? I think it's just a general marketroid term for anything new-ish and cool related to the Web. As such, I would not be in favour of legitimising their BS with a JavaRanch forum. Probably bolting the barn door after horse has bolted, but...

I think existing forums cover it.

As a further point of clarification, we usually wait until we see a need for a forum before we create it. In the past, when we've tried to anticipate what will be the next "hot thing", we've been wrong.

On the other hand, if we get a lot of questions on topic 'A' in a forum kind of related but not quite right, we take a break from plotting to take over the world and talk about the need for the new forum.

That probably wouldn't work in this case, though, since "Web 2.0" has so little to do with Java development directly that it's unlikely people would pose questions about it here, no matter how hot the topic is elsewhere.

So the issue -as I see it- is more "would we want a forum that is different in style from most others?" We do have forums that are only tangentially related to Java, but to create a new one, answering Iljas question becomes even more important: What kind of questions/discussions would fit in there?
