out of topic: How much does a Java Professional gets paid?

I am planning to take a master of science in computer science in the US and I was wondering, how much does a java programer gets paid a month in the USA?

Here in Brazil, where I live, it varies a lot.

For example... A recently graduated professional gets paid around $1000,00 dollars. A more advanced Java programmer, with more experience would worth 1500-2000 dollars.

An Java Architect would worth $3000,00 but it is a rarity.

What about in you guys' places? how much does a java developer/architect gets paid?

Salary varies a lot depending on your experience, the local market, the size of the company and if you have any specific domain knowledge your employer requires (i.e. accounting, SAP/ERP, laws and regulations etc.).
You can check internet job boards for the specific region that you are looking at to get a good idea of the market. I live in Northeast Ohio and we have a pretty small, slow market. From the job announcements I've seen I'd say that for an experienced (5+ year) Java programmer, $6250/month (USD, 1 Real = .52 USD) would be common.
To get a sense of how one would live on that, you'd need to know the difference in the cost of living between Brazil and the US. There's lots of online tools to compare cities within the US but I haven't found any that do US to international. Search around.

I have applied for a Master of Science in Computer Science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxiville. It seems to have a lot of good companies around there. Does anybody know how good is the state of tennessee for IT jobs, (specially Java Jobs)?

there are a ton of variables.
like do you have work experience,etc.
i'd imagine you'd at least make 4000 USD a month at the bare minimum if you have a masters and it's a java job.

can i just clarify whether these figure are after tax ones.. i mean the take home pay. Or are they gross figures.

Well in India, a fresher out of college can make around $5000 per annum to $10000 p.a.

While ssomebody with an experience of 5 years in Java can make around $20000 to $30000 p.a.

If these figures seem low to you , remember that average per capita annual income is approx. $900

The figure I posted would be gross (pre-tax).

The numbers vary a lot all over the US, more on the coasts, less in flyover areas.

I usually estimate about a $50K-$60K gross for BS CS rookies, about $80K gross for five year experienced folks with lots of talent. Top folks get about $100K gross, but these jobs are fairly rare, and highly competitive, stressful, and often unstable.
