I am working as a lead in a well known company and I am in this company for 5 years and 3 months. Before that I worked in a non-IT finance firm with non-IT designation {related to finance} for 11 months but the work was a finance software project.

A friend of mine also started his career with me and both of us worked with the earlier company for the same duration and we even joined the current company on the same day.

Recently he attended an interview with a top 3 Indian IT services company which offered him the position of Project Manager as they considered his first 11 months project work as work related to software projects. I also attended the same company interview and they say they will offer me Programmer Analyst as they see that my earlier designation was not a software designation and they say they count on the 5 years and 3 months.

I have put my papers down but I am in dilemma whether to accept that offer or consider other offers.

Do the companies consider the non-IT but software projects experience to give a proper designation ?

It highly depends upon company-to-company.

Seriously even so many of my friends had also expereinced same.

So just go ahead with your future plans.

Now I am in dilemma. The hr consultants ask me my total relevant experience so should I tell it is 6 years and 2 months / 5 years and 3 months ?

When I posed this question to the consultants they were not aware and they told they will say it as 6 years and 2 months

Had I be at your position, I could have clearly mentioned that, I have 6 Yrs and 2 months expereince, in which 11 months I have worked in Finance Domain.

I will still advise you to go ahead with everything in black-n-white.

It would certainly help you.
