No, that's not it . The thing is, as I understand, like rockstars who come out with a hit, and become idolized, those programmers are. Take for instance Rod Johnson and spring, James Gosling and java, or Nikhil Kothari and ASP.NET AJAX. Those are the rockstars of the programming/IT world, because of their "hits" and because they rock .

but hey, I know some java developers are real rockstars in real life.. if am not mistaken, Mr. Bert Bates can play the guitar. . however, I still wonder what's inside of that book, I hope it's not an interview with the "rockstar java programmers"

Hello Marvin,

Alaa kindly posted the list of interviewees in this thread:

https://coderanch.com/t/32876/Jobs/careers/Secrets-Rockstar-Programmers-Riding-IT

No, they're not all Java programmers. I have some Microsoft, Ruby, Python and Smalltalk guys in there too.

As to why rockstar, it just fit. However, there seems to be some confusion between DIVA and ROCKSTAR. I consider a DIVA to be someone who MAY be a master, but IS difficult to work with. Rock, being a medium of the people, and a medium of revolution, has ROCKSTARS, who ARE masters, and OFTEN are easy to work with. The last part is important, IMHO. That's why one of the first questions I asked everyone is, "how important is it to be aware of your own ignorance". True rockstars answer this question with "Hell yes! Very important."

TopCoder/Computerworld sometimes also refer to its exceptional coders as Rockstars.

Good point!

Were there occasions where you didn't get this kind of response?
