JTextArea Problem

I'm making a Test Engine.. The questions are displayed in random in a JTextArea object.. The thing is i've set the vertical scrollbar as needed.. but whenever it's needed the JTextArea becomes too small and doesn't display nething.. Obviously it's there inside a ScrollPane.. pls help..

JTextArea question = new JTextArea(" ",17,60);
