about the gui question.
u can use many IDE for gui:
some around are JBuilder, and Visual Cafe.
but if u want a free one, then forte that comes with the j2se is a good one also.

HI,
The easiest way to change a component's features is to alter the UIDefaults contents like this

The problem with this is that you have to do all the components one by one and it can get difficult to maintain.
Another way is to create a LookAndFeel that extends MetalLookAndFeel and make the adjustments inside that class. Then you can change primary colors, component borders etc for the whole application with a few lines of code.
