Hi
According to me yo can go for "JFC Unleashed". It gives you a detailed picture of using availiable swing components as well as it also gives you an idea on how to go create custom components.
BEST OF LUCK.

Well actually, Salima...
I have read several books on swing. The one I liked the most was this one:
http://vig.prenhall.com/catalog/academic/product/1,4096,0130803014,00.html?type=ABI
On the other hand, I thought that this book:
http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/jswing2/
was useless -- but I know that many people think it is excellent!
Therefore, in my opinion, the "best" book depends on the individual, and that's why I gave you the URL for the "Safari" online library -- they have several books on swing. You can browse each one and decide which one -- if any -- is "best" for you.
Good Luck,
Avi.

Hi,
As Avi said Core JFC by Kim Topley is inarguably the best book on Swing.
I would like to mention few other books :-
1. Core Swing Advanced Programming by Kim topley (If u r desiging text editors or web browsers, this book is a must)
2. Graphic Java 1.2 Mastering JFC Vol 1 (AWT) by David Geary
3. Graphic Java 2 Mastering JFC Vol 2 (Swing) by David Geary
(About Book No. 2 and 3 - Both books are from Sun Microsystems Press and the author is designing GUIs since 1984)
Well there is one more book by him Vol 3 Advanced Swing but it's not available in India hence i haven't used it.
4. Java Swing Oreilly pub. is better for exercises
Hope this helps
