FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Windward Studios Announces Windward Reports 3.0

New AutoTag Add-in for Microsoft Word Automates Inserting Tags and Laying Out Reports

3.0 Brings Windward Reports Power to Microsoft .NET

Boulder, Colo., October 18, 2004Windward Studios, a leader in enterprise report generation, today announced the public availability of Windward Reports 3.0. With the new release, Windward Studios brings even greater efficiency to its Microsoft Word-based report-layout process, and brings the power of Windward Reports robust reporting engine and ease of use to a new audience: Microsoft .NET developers and users.

Windward Reports 3.0s greater efficiency and ease comes by way of AutoTag, a new innovative add-in for Word that greatly simplifies data layout and data-source mapping, allowing even non-programmers to automatically insert and validate tags in the template.

AutoTag further automates what was once a very manual report-layout process, explains David Thielen, president of Windward Studios. AutoTag integrates as a pull-down menu item in Word 2003, and automates data-source mapping, database connection and tag editing. Non-programmersfinance executives, business users, even marketersand programmers alike will benefit from its easy instant tag creation and validation.

With 3.0, anyone who can use Word can quickly lay out, identify input data for, and generate reports.

AutoTag also reduces the size of tags on the template page.

Not only AutoTag but all of Windward Reports 3.0s many capabilities will be new to the .NET community. With 3.0, Windward Reports is now available for use in .NET programs.

Windward Reports runs as a server, providing reports to .NET clients via a client API (Application Program Interface) that communicates with the server over the network. The client is written in C# but can be accessed with any .NET language, Thielen said.
Summary of Windward Reports 3.0s New Capabilities
Version 3.0 adds the following significant functionality to Windward Reports. Users can now:
Automatically insert and validate tags with AutoTag, the new tag editor.
Write Java Beans that perform final processing on the output of a tag.
Leverage a new tag <wr: function /> that performs functions including sum, average, max, min, and count.
Map to SQL, XML or custom data sources.
Call Windward Reports directly from Java.
Call Windward Reports over the network from a client. (Clients are presently available for Java and .NET.)

About Windward Reports
Launched in 2002, Windward Reports is the only full-featured, robust J2EE/.NET reporting engine to use Microsoft Word as a layout tool, putting report-design and -generation power in the hands of the end user, technical or non-technical. Also unique, Windward Reports implements in hours, offers affordable use-based pricing, and offers prompt, fantastic technical support via a 24/7 support forum and support contracts.

Available as a Java library, Windward Reports runs as a standalone application or in an enterprise computing environment.
