Hello, I'm looking for an open source outlook or MiG style swing component.

I'm interested in writing my own, however wouldn't really know how create a the layout manager to arrange the month view with vertical times. If someone could point out a nice tutorial or book on where to start or how to go about it?

Welcome to the Ranch.

I presume you haven't found anything useful in the Java Tutorial? Can't htink of anything else offhand, but
Horstmann C, Cornell G, Core Java 2 7/e, vol II: Advanced Features, Upper Saddle River NJ: Sun Microsystems Press (Prentice-Hall) (2004), page 619, quote a "calendar bean" by Kai Tdtler and say it is available onTdtler's website. You might get hints from that.

Anybody else got any better ideas?

I've downloaded the samples from the book but can't see a calendar bean. However by google-ing 'calendar bean' I may have found a free calendar which dispalays a good sized month view with text.
I will disect it and squeeze in the appointments.
