Douglas Adams, author of the 'Hitchhikers Guide' series of insanely funny books. He passed away 5/13/01 from a heart attack at his home in California.
My cat, Zaphod, is currently wearing a black thread around his collar in mourning. His other head is laughing moronicaly.

Yes indeed I was very sad to hear he had passed away. As morbid as it sounds I can't help thinking how ironic it would have been had he been 42 when he dies rather than 49 ... but never mind!! Sorry I know it's in really poor taste but I just can't get that thought out of my head!

It's been suggested (at slashdot) that whenever an arbitrary number is needed in a program, we now use 42 as that number.

Yes, he will certainly be missed. I guess the "Increasingly Innaccurately titled Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Trilogy" will increase no more. I can't wait until my kids are old enough to read his books.
