Hi,
I want to know the meaning of life.
why god has given us life when everything in emotions goes wrong in life. what you should do when you can not share any bad feeling with the people u love. The reason not saying to the people to whom u love is u don't want to give any trouble to them?
What should you do when someone is playing bad politics game with you and you can't do anything?
Please let me know,
Thanks,
Angela

See the Monty Python movie: The Meaning of Life
Life is a mystery Angela. We are all lonely. In an insignificant corner of an insignificant galaxy... we are whirling out there in space; everything's quiet out there. All the buzz is inside our minds. When you can transcend this buzz, and realize your position in this mighty universe, all petty emotions become trivial.
Simply go outdoors on a moonless night, lie down on your back and look at the sky... all the stars, each so distant... do you feel how quiet it is out there? Doesn't it feel so peaceful? How can mere emotions disturb you anymore? Feel the peace, and you will be happy.
The key is to transcend. When that happens, your perspective on life becomes so much clearer... and everything can be understood, accepted and managed.

While you are sitting where contemplating the meaning of life, life is passing you by. A minute lost is a minute you'll never ever get back. The meaning is whatever you want it to be. It is only meaningful if you can live it in full and enjoy it all the way to the end.

Thanks for reply.
But I want to find out something:
We are three friends. Me, Nancy and Janet. Me and Nancy were very close friends. Before I met Nancy, Nancy and Janet were very good friends.Nancy used to listen and do everything Janet says. After we become (Me and Nancy) friends, Nancy got very attached to me and used to listen whatever I said. Now Janet is back and playing very bad politics, she actually doesn't care for Nancy . she is Just playing game with her and trying to break the friendship between Me and Nancy. And the weak point of Nancy is that she blindly believes Janet.
I just want to survive Nancy from Janet. What should I do?
Thanks
Angela Jessi

Here I am philosophizing about galaxies and stars, and you reveal that this is a catty girl situation. You'll have to figure this one out yourself. No amount of transcending will help. Get out or get scratched.
And get a boy friend. Haven't you learnt anything from Fox shows like "When Good Girls Go Bad", and so on...

What on earth does getting a boyfriend have to do with this problem?
angela, it seems to me that Janet is jealous. You have two possible solutions:
1. Re-Assure her that you are still her friend and will be there for her should she need you? It would help if Nancy could do this too.
2. Get Janet out of your life. This is an extreme measure but if things get too bad I'd do it. Try option one first though Jealousy can be a very powerful emotion and believe me there's nothing in the world worse than a woman who thinks she's losing her best friend to another woman (or even worse... a man!). The result can be very destructive, but most of the time the problem can be solved with a bit of re-assurance! But don't forget to back up your words with actions.
Good Luck

Jessi!

I think Janet is possesive on U'r friend Nancy more than U.
That's why she is doing like that.If U allow Nancy to move close with her, problem will solved.
Since I'm also belong to this category.I won't allow my friend to close to anybody though my friend is man.Imagine what will I do incase of Girl!!!
Try to understand her!!
Best of Luck!!

You think you and Nancy are best friends. Since Janet and Nancy were close before you met Nancy, then it is possible Janet also thinks that Nancy is her best friend. While you are accusing Janet of playing bad politics, maybe Janet is thinking the same thing about you. You two are competing for Nancy's loyalty. Meanwhile, Nancy is caught in the middle. At this point, whether you believe Nancy is closer to you than to Janet is immaterial. Isn't it up to Nancy to decide who she wants to be her best friend and who she wants to be the closest to? It is obvious if what she wants is to be equally close to you both, she is in deep trouble.

That should be a refreshing change for her; and maybe that'll soften her attachment to Nancy, and she wouldn't really care about Janet's (apparent) disruptive behavior.
Janet's actions are justifiable, because she could simply be pissed off at Angela for stealing Nancy from her. So now, even though she may not care about Nancy anymore, she's just trying to throw a spanner into the works, just to deprive Angela of Nancy's friendship. It's simple child psychology - If I don't have it, you can't have it either.

I've never understood the mentality of people who are possessive over their friends. I've never experienced it. I have a very large group of friends all of whom I love equally and am equally close to. Some of them are also friends with eachother and others aren't and have other friends.
Friends aren't yours to possess, they should be considered a valuable addition to you life and by trying to "own" their friendship you are either being extremely selfish or insecure. You should trust your friends, if a reason you don't want them to be friends with others is that you are afraid they will share your secrets then you aren't really a good friend yourself.

Ofcourse I agree with U.U must trust U'r friends That's true friendship. Moreover I won't say don't have friends other than me.My View is U have friends but U must be close to me.That Only I want from U.That's Possesive.Try to understand my feelings.I never afraid that U will share my secrets to others. To whom U share ,with U'r close friend like me.Again I'm saying U R only for me.My friends never do like that. They know me very well.

Nancy also wags her tail, licks your face and obeys your commands, always eager to please.
Obviously Nancy is a female canine.
Jessi, you must first tell us the breed before we can solve your problem.

Rahul, have you been doing too much of lateral thinking lately?
Me too. The other day I was trying to figure out why some piece of code wasn't working, and came up with all sorts of imaginative reasons, I just stopped short of blaming it on a dracula.

(Warning: The content of this post is meaningless drivel = 100% BS.)
Sahir, you mean Nancy ain't a doggie :? Read Jessi's posts again.
Isn't a dog a man's best friend ? So shouldn't a lady dog be a woman's? I just muddle on ...
Sahir methinks you wanna watch us fight ...
In this forum I aim not to mean much ... Any meaning in my posts is entirely accidental (and a product of Sahir's devious mind ).
I recall recently that somebody (I think Map) compared our Moose to Brenda - the Boss' wife ! Everybody giggled - yet nobody lost their jobs ! So, I am following the example set by the big boys.
Also I wouldn't mind anybody saying that my best friend was a dog. Though the dog may protest.

Rahul, Rahul, Rahul,
The girl is going through emotional turmoil and you turn the whole thing into a farce (with the assistance of the canine Nancy and feline Janet). Angela, I am an expert at handling such situations. If you are over 21 send me an e-mail and we will discuss this in private , if you aren't (over 21) , talk to Rahul.

What Is Life?
If the ability to reproduce, respond to stimuli etc. is life, then computer animations are life also. It is a technological possibility that robots can be made to possess all the seven criteria of living things (reproduction, response to stimuli, respiration, locomotion, nutrition, growth, excretion) defined by biologists. But even so, even children do not say that they have life. It is clear that we cannot define life by means of an input (stimulus)-output (response) model or any public observables. All these are but the attributes of life, not its essence. Logicians tell us that if we can point out a set of attributes that no other things can have them all, then we have succeeded in defining it. But to be more accurate, we should only say that we are then able to single it out among all other things verbally, we still do not know what it is if we do not know it in the first place.

But I think this much is agreed, that programmers don't have a life. In contrast a cat has 9 lives. I think we need Joel's help to define life.

Big Brother is watching you!

Nancy's post was not in a foreign language, and thus will not be deleted. She was remarking on the deep thoughts produced in this discussion using an acronym: WOOF! ( Wisdom Of Our Forum ) All involved in this discussion should feel honored.

Janet C was also giving all of us a compliment. MEEEEEEOW! ( Most Excellent Exceptional Erudite Extraordianary Eternal Enourmous Outrageous Wisdom )

More information regarding JavaRanch's budding policy on acronyms and contractions can be found in this thread. We have not yet built up a list of the commonly used acronyms here at the Ranch, but when it is done, WOOF and MEEEEEEOW will certainly be included.

That is all.

I thank all the Sheriffs, Bartenders, Ranch Hands, Greenhorns, Unregistereds, my parents, my sisters, my ex-girlfriends, my dog, my dog's parents, Angela, Nancy and Janet for their help and encouragement. Not so fast. We need to do a background check to find out if you are truly deep thinker. First you need a recommendation from one member of the deep thinkers advisory board, then a letter from the word association kings Andy Ceponis and Bodie Minster saying they dont know you. If they say they know you, that means you have participated in word association game. This will disqualify you from being a deep thinker for rest of your life.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in
front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very
large and empty jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then
asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the Jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes".
The professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.
"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to
recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things -- your family, your children, your health, your friends, your favorite passions, God -- things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. "The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else -- the small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.
"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house, and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the beer represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked," he said. "It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of beers.
