So I thought I'd post this and see what kind of response there is. For those unfamiliar with the idea, there is a theory popularized by a movie and the game "6 degrees of kevin bacon", that everyone in the world is connected to everyone else, through no more than 6 degrees of separation. ie: You can be connected to *everyone* in the world, through only 6 intermediary people.
So I thought I'd start a thread about how many degrees are between a poster (me to start) and 'famous' people.
The general rule is this though: Each person in the chain *must* have actually met the two people on either side of themselves. So if someone posts on here that they are 2 degrees from Hillary Clinton, you are not 3 degrees away from her, unless you've personally met that poster. (or unless you can get to Hillary yourself through 3 different people!) There's also a variation I've known that *insists* that each person in the chain knows each other quite well. ie: it can't just be a casual meeting. But honestly, I've never been able to connect myself with very many people that way.
Does that seem all too complicated? Well.. here goes.
Bill Clinton - 2 Me - Jennifer - Mark - Bill My cousin Jennifer's best friend Mark. Mark is one of these brazen people that doesn't have that mental block in place that prevents him from doing things. So he was working as the concierge at a hotel where the President was staying one time, and he just went right on up to Bill in the lobby. Apparently he's quite a charmer, and Bill wasn't busy, so they blabbed for about 20 minutes. There is even a picture that my cousin has seen with her own eyes. I felt I needed to explain that one fully.
Keanu Reeves - 1 Me - Corinna - Keanu Corinna was my boss back when I worked retail in a photo lab. When Keanu came to Winnipeg to play Hamlet on stage, Corinna was lurking around the stage entrance and got pictures of him. She also had a connection in the Theatre, so she had several promo posters for the performance that were 'demo'd but never produced. So she got him to autograph one of them.
i guess i gave you the idea when i posted this in another thread... Julia Roberts - 2 Richard Geer - 3 Kevin Bacon - 3 Keifer Southerland - 3 Donald Southerland - 4 Tom Cruise - 4 Demie Moore - 4 Jack Nicholson - 4 Bruce Willis - 5 (the list could go on forever) My friend Robbie from high school took Julia Roberts to our high school senior prom... i was a sophomore, so i did not go to the dance. Julia went to another high school in our county. Julia Robets starred in "Flatliners" with Kevin Bacon and Keifer Southerland... Flatliners - Julia, Kiefer, Kevin Pretty Woman - Julia, Richard A Few Good Men - Kiefer, Tom, Jack, Demie and, of course, Donald is Kiefer's father [This message has been edited by Greg Harris (edited November 10, 2001).]
Let's see ... Telly Savalas(?) - 1 My husband met him in a bathroom in Vegas, in the '70's when my husband had a fairly large head of hair; Telly said "Nice hair" and they had a conversation. Debbie Reynolds - 1 My husband again, in Vegas. He was playing Blackjack in her casino and she noticed a ring he was wearing, leaned over to look at it and spilt a drink on him. Tommy Dorsey - 1 My grandmother met him. George Chevalo - 1 My Dad knew him; coached his sons. Nearly every hockey player that played on the original six - 1 My Dad grew up with some of them and met most of the others when he worked at Pearson airport in Toronto. (Wish I still had all the autographs he used to get for us: Orr, Howe, Hull, Bower, Shack, Mahovilich(?), ) John Wayne - 1 My Dad again, actually spent an entire day with him, driving him around Toronto. So I guess I'm 2 degrees away from a helluva lot of famous people

This requires WAY to much thinking on my part. Im just not capable of such heavy duty brain usage on mondays. I can tell you who ive met really quickly, and i can add more later. Mike Ditka - used to come in for coffee where i worked. Walter Payton - used to come in every tuesday morning and id make him his special cappuccino. Dennis Rodman - met him at a club we both used to frequent, had drinks. Jenny McCarthy - met her at the same club as Rodman. Cant think of anymore at the moment. Brain usage jumped to almost 5% at one point during this post. Had to shutdown!
