As of Java 1.2 these classes have been retrofitted to fall in line under the Collections framework. Vector was retrofitted to implement List, and HashTable was retrofitted to implment Map. Unlike the newer Collections implementations though, Vector and Hashtable are synchronized.
Minor clarification -- the retrofitting operation means that they interoperate with the classes from the Collections framework, but they are themselves not part of the framework. For a number of different reasons, avoid them if you can. - Peter

Here is a little Collections Crib Sheet that I use instead of brain cells to keep all the collections straight. Vector and Hashtable are "historic" and Sun recommends you use the new stuff.
