Although my TV watching time has dwindled, I still watch the Simpsons when possible. Since the addition of my son to my family, "Malcolm in the Middle" is becoming more of a reality TV show! I think my whole life can be summarized by incidents that happened in either the Simpsons, Malcolm in the Middle, or Seinfeld.

I have to agree that Malcolm in the Middle is a great one. Most of the networks are in re-runs right now, other than some of the cable netwroks. Currently I try to catch The Dead Zone (USA) and Odyssey 5 (Showtime). Last season I think 24 and The Shield were two good ones.

Ugh. While The Simpsons is great, I can't say that I've been impressed with either Seinfeld or Malcolm in the Middle the few times I've seen either. And my deepest sympathies go out to anyone who can identify with any of these as "reality" shows. Perhaps I lead a boring life, but I see all of these shows as using exaggeration for humor. It works for The Simpsons, but (IMHO) not for the other two.
As far as my favorite, based on total viewing time, it would have to be Jeopardy!, as that is the only one I watch on anything approaching a regular basis. (Average weekly TV viewing time in my household is about 2.5 hours, with me doing the majority of that.) On the other hand, we spend about 8-10 hours a week playing board games, like The Settlers of Catan, Vinci, Evo, and Bohnanza. I mean, I'm a computer professional. I spend my entire day in front of a screen. As such, this is not the ideal form of relaxation for me. .

Hmmm... tough to pick favorites; most shows have their ups and downs, and variety is important. But currently (i.e. over this last season) my list would include:
Farscape
Alias
Six Feet Under
Oz
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Also good are 24, Scrubs, Angel, NYPD Blue, Jeremiah, The West Wing, The Shield, Gilmore Girls, and The Lex Luthor Show (misnamed "Smallville" for some silly reason :roll: ).
And in the all-time favorites category:

Babylon 5
EZ Streets
Homicide - Life in the Street
The Simpsons
St. Elsewhere
Hill Street Blues
The Simpsons is in the odd position of being an all-time favorite but not a current one, even though it's still on the air. I think it's still worth watching, but the hit/miss ratio has fallen substantially since the Conan O'Brien years.

I really liked the 1st season of 24, but I am very skeptical of the 2nd season. It will be hard to do that again. Malcolm in the Middle is pretty good. I really like The Sapranos.

all time has to be Babylon 5 (too bad the sequel/spinoff wasn't as good)
and if there is nothing good on TV my daughter and I can always get in an hour or so of Halo - anyone else play Halo? I love it. We just started playing the scenarios where you play against each other and have spent most of the time laughing at each other.

Never really understood Seinfeld and South Park, althoug I watch it occasionally... Hockey is a great tv series, because it's got plot, drama, and my favorite team never wins the Cup... :roll:
The X-Files was pretty good for a season, as well as The Sopranos, but then they got old fast. Friends is Ok too, I guess, as long as you keep in mind that there's nothing real about that show...
My days of watching tv are getting shorter by the day... :roll:

I'm shocked nobody has mentioned The Shield yet.
A brutal, adultering, cop-killing, drug-dealing detective with a history of using excessive force and framing suspects..............AND HE'S THE MAIN CHARACTER.
What more can you ask for?
Add to that an amazing emsemble cast and a suspenseful story arc, and you have the best damn show I have ever seen by far.
BTW....Shield Season 2 starts this coming January.

Ummm... you're the third. I was hesitant about this show initially, thinking that it was going for shock value more than good storytelling. But I was mistaken. Not that they aren't going for shock value - they are. But the storylines and cast have been excellent, well worth my time. I particularly enjoy watching how CCH Pounder's character reacts to the goings on, maintaining dignity and class with a wry humor and a sense of pragmatism.

I thought Crusade had real potential, despite all the interference from TNT. Eilerson, Gideon and Galen were great characters. Ah well... moot now I guess. Joe seems to be keeping busy though...
BTW, David O'Meara - what's the matter, don't you guys get Farscape down in Oz? Or do you just export it? Otherwise, a good list.

Strangely no I think they showed the second season but I can't remember the time slot and not sure if they finished the series off.
The Shield hasn't made it yet.
24 and Mutant X just started. 24 looks OK so far (only 2 episodes), the writers for the other should be lined up and shot.

Current Shows:
Alias - simply awesome.
The West Wing - hate the politics but love the show. The only night I'm guaranteed to be home.
24 - Great 1st season: new concept, new approach, truly innovative TV. Of course, so was the first season of Survivor and now I can't stand that show...
Law & Order - all flavors but especailly Criminal Intent.
CSI - all around excellent.

And one no longer running:
Star Trek Voyager - I know this is typically dissenting amongst serious trekkers but this was the best series they ever put together. I like Enterprise which can be especially entertaining as a retro look at their universe, but Voyager tops my ST list by far.
