********-Urgent-Urgent-Urgent-*************
Hello Everyone,
I want to develop a web based content management tool using J2EE & oracle as backend.
The content management should suppot remote file upload, email, remote management etc.,
Some of my content were stored in legacy database,so i would like to use XML for data exchange(not sure).
For XML, should I use DOM or SAX or XXX?
Please tell me how to install a j2ee server like IIS or PWS.
If you had done similar project before,i would be graceful if you could share your code.
I found many people were talking about webservices,i would like to use that as well,
is there is any free online book available for this.
Please note that i'm a beginner to java.
Waiting for your replys.
thanks in advance.
Regards
Balaji

I can help you with this one... IIS isn't a J2EE server.

461 posts in Javaranch, and still a beginner??? Duh!!
Content management tools or software falls into so many different types according to its usage. Right from online source control tools to photo storage and sharing sites like yahoo photos or MSN communities. As suggested earlier a google search is your best bet, and I am sure you will be able to find more than one completed open source projects for all these different variants of content management tools or solutions.

Ahhh - you meant to be silly .
Well now that you mention it it IS rather meaningless when they ask something THAT wide open. .
And I agree that the "Urgent" word is so irritating that it should cost them a dollar per use. That way we would be able to fund that new memory REAL quick .

i would recommend getting Apache web server and Tomcat to run the Java. some people say it is hard to setup but i managed. i had problems trying to get PWS to work and it was 10 times as big as well. not to mention when all the IIS servers got infected with code red virus, i was attacked but they couldnt get in

These posts irritate me to no end too! I know of active ranchers that use it in every second post!

Actually, if the ranch had a pummel icon, I would probably use it now.
I also have violent thoughts when I read these these types of threads!

Ever since James Hobson mention wife swapping in a reply to one of my post, I've been checking that out with some helpline councillors and only one understand what I'm talking about & he ask me to allow my wife to go first. The catch is that I tell him that my wife suggested it to me first. I guess he've must have suspected that I'm putting forward a hypothetical situation to him. So much for being a schizoprenic.

How about a Javaranch filter(like Slashdot's lameness filter) to automatically prevent somebody from posting with these titles .

1. Help!!!
2. URGENT!! PLEASE HELP!!
3. Very, Very Urgent!!!
4. Help!!! Urgent! Plz Help me
5. Desperately seeking Help!!!
6. Please reply immediately.
7. Anything with more than 2 exclamation points in the title.
8. <Add your favorite here>
OF course people would devise a way to work around those filters rather than put a meaningful title.
Cheers

Here's a Content Management system I wrote a while ago:

Just create an instance and put the data in the data field.
Consider the content managed.
