Serialization works with databases ?

I have used Java serialization only with text files. I read that it works with databases also. How do you do that ?

For what purpose? What problem are you trying to solve? If you are trying to serialize objects into database records, you can do so manually with JDBC or 'automatically' using an object mapping tool.

Yes it works. I have used it by creating the objectoutputstream wrapping a bytearrayoutputstream. After serialization you can get the byte array from the bytearrayoutputstream and the use the byte[] to write the data in a blob and then send it to the database with a preparedstatement.
