Here's a document that Marilyn and I worked on over the weekend. The idea is that this is supposed to be a "firendly place" and when tempers rise, some folks might start insulting other folks - often in an indirect way. And usually each way can be described as a fallacy (deceptive argument).
I thought that if we can construct a page on fallacies, it might help folks to get a better understanding of the subtle ways people can be insulted. Well, you know, so they won't do it so much.

As we were doing this, Marilyn and I thought it would be good to come up with an example of each fallacy from the old threads here in MD. Anybody wanna find a few for us? No? I guess that might be next weeks project then ....

No.... I am serious.
Forget the past, past cant be changed. Let us look for the future.

I agree with Ravish. Please don't use old threads for this. At least, not any threads that had serious arguments going on. Too much past baggage we don't need to resurrect. Or if examples from the past are used, change the names and details enough to protect the guilty.

I think we were just planning to pull out a phrase or sentence here and there, not entire threads, or even entire posts.

Your essay is too long. It's hard to understand what the point is. I would be more direct. I would get right to the point by saying "When having a discussion on JavaRanch, please make every effort to be civil. Please avoid these fallacies, or deceptive arguments:".

New threads are fine too. I just think that real life examples of each fallacy would be useful. They would probably be even better if they came from a forum other than MD.

Please seek medical attention!
It is not from past it is after list of fallacies has been public
