WTF is an "in-migrant" anyway? How is it different from an immigrant? Maybe they (the census folks who cooked up the term) are trying to avoid people thinking immigrant == foreigner, when they mean in-migrant == anyone coming in from outside LA. Seems like a silly reason to make up a new term though.

It may indicate simply a convenient place of entry into the US (or entry into one US State from another). In the case of entry into the US, Miami is a good case in point (maybe Houston and some California cities also? ). Often the influx of immigrants puts strong downward pressure on wages and increases unemployment (especially with less skilled jobs, but possibly skilled ones in certain cases). The Miami-Dade area has the worst unemployment stats in the State and has other bad stats as well.

right, statistics is not for individual. one way to utilize the statistics is to go against the trend.
