hi all
I did MCA in 1997. Woked for a year. After that due to some reason i could not make for a job. Now i am gearing to get some course in JAVA to get into the industry. I am starting with JAVA certification. Pls let me know how to start exactly. I am planning to start with JDK 1.2 and then eventually move to IDE after clearing the Certification. Also suggest me some good book to start as a beginner...........

I have to go with the Just Java recommendation. See the review at www.javaranch.com/books.html.
I think you can skip an IDE. Just pick a good editor and use the free compiler from Sun.
Have you seen the cattle drive yet?

I recommend the editor at http://textpad.com/
It's integrated with the JDK which you need to have installed, and it prints in color too...

I have installed TEXTPAD for the editor. Also what all configuration information(Registry, ini) I need to configure in my m/c. Please also give me details where exactly to configure the information. It may sound all of U that i am asking very basic questions but believe me these questions are really hounding me..........

Make necessary changes in Autoexec.bat. This should include the JDK path. Also set CLASSPATH=.;c:\<your working direc>.
This should solve u'r purpose.
