Well JavaRanch's Cattle Drive is intended to do the java part. You can go ahead and TRY the assignments, however you can not talk about them at JavaRanch except in the Cattle Drive forum and even then you can not give away they code.
If you want your work to be reviewed and "nitpicked" by JavaRanch folks, then there is a small cost.
I am moving this to the Beginners Forum.

... hm, interesting. I was just wondering about submiting code for review and nitpicking. What are the said 'small costs' associated with it? I'm sorry if it's a redundant question, maybe I didn't look for it too deeply.

Being a green self teacher is a slow and lonesome adventure, but what worries me the most is learning/growing in a vaccum.

So, I conjured up a project/app to build and learn, but where/how could I let other pick at it, so it could be constructed and executed as well as possible? At the end I'd like to make it available for download along with the source code and spare someone some of the growing pains or at least make their trip that much easier.

If you're working on a project, with which you're looking for coding and design feedback and ideas, these forums are the place to ask. Just pick the forum that best matches the topic.

If you're curious for more information on the Cattle Drive, mosey on over to http://www.javaranch.com/cattledrive.jsp
