Well duh!
Judas is
mistaken for Jesus by the Romans (or feels guilty and goes willingly with the intent to deceive them) and - helped with a good bit of acting by the Virgin Mary in front of the cross - the whole world is led to believe Jesus died (apart from those pesky Muslims later on). They all had beards and sandals in those days so it would have been easy. Obviously Jesus didn't
actually die because he "appears" three days later. After which he's free to bugger off somewhere with Magdelene, probably Turkey where John took his mum.
