322.9 I actually got 302.5 the first time I tried it, just figuring out the controls. Took me some time to get close to that again though. What is the farthest you can hit the penguin so that it doesn't bounce? Wasn't initially paying attention to this, but I don't think I've seen any past 210. 206.3 Is my highest since paying attention to this. http://laser.narr.as/laser.swf This one's cool. I'm stuck on level 11 currently. I can get all but one light bulb before running out of mirrors. [ January 23, 2004: Message edited by: Jim Yingst ]
I'm at level 13 now. 11 was the hardest so far. Umm Jim... you want to send me a message with tips on how to beat lvl8? Looking at horizontal and vertical lines, there are never more than two targets on a single line. Looking at diagonals, there are two diagonals with three targets on a line. See if you can make one or more of those lines part of the solution. In general, it's easier to spot horizontal and vertical paths than diagonal ones. Don't overlook diagonals. In other levels, try to position splitters so that both sides of the beam are doing something useful. Level 8 is unusual in that it would be possible to replace each splitter with a simple mirror; you really don't need the full splitter functionality.
[Davy]: Stuck on level 11 on the laser game, any hints??? Several hints with increasing specificity which you may view by selecting the blank region after the number (as if you're going to copy it): 1. There are some relatively obvious diagonal paths that cover most of the lights. Yes you'll use those. But probably not in the order you first think of. 2. Most of my mirrors ended up in the first place I put them, but the splitter placement the hard part - it's not in an obvious spot. Keep an open mind about where to put it, and what order the other paths need to be followed in. 3. Take care of the closest light to the laser first - it's too hard to get back to this area once the laser leaves it. 4. There's one diagonal with 3 lights in it. These are actually the last three lights the laser reaches (despite their proximity to the laser). [ January 25, 2004: Message edited by: Jim Yingst ]
First game: MAx ? 322.9 Min: 57.5 (at least I got the min) Max without boincing: 207.5 (and the max non-bouncing) Second level 11.. I have to work, you do you always give me a good excuse for not working
The 323 score was quoted to me over email by a friend so its quite possible that 322.0 is indeed the max! I got something like 319.xx today so Im nearly there :-) As for the lasers game I havent gone back to it, but boy is it good! I reckon it should be used as an aptitude test in an interview situation.... "Hello, would you like to come and sit down and run this test on the computer here? Yes, well it wont take more than an hour to complete, I'll be back then to see how youre getting on " Very, very evil
Mark Fletcher - http://www.markfletcher.org/blog I had some Java certs, but they're too old now...
guys the laser game is fab, i stayed up all night on sunday playing it, eventually (through luck and "How the hell did I get passed that!!!" more luck)completed it. But can't remember most of it, so going to go over it again, but play in stages. once i pass my SCJP exam, this should be my main priority, but the laser game.............. Davy
Penguin Game: Longest: 323.4 - Jim's reasoning (of 322.9 being the highest) is wrong, for once Longest with out bounce: 207.2 Lowest non-zero score: 69.3 Lowest non-zero score with out bounce: 189.2 Laser: Stuck at Level 11. Resisting the temptation to look into Jim's hints
