First lets put up our exam dates online and decide when everyone is appearing for the exam. I will take five weeks time
because of the full swing of job and then lets put up a study plan. Let me know your thoughts.
I would recommend that you organize your groups using Agile methodologies. Doing so will add to your overall experience besides being a good way to organize and meet goals. Base scrums on the Sierra/Bates book (the role of Product Owner).
For instance a group of you (the team) would commit to beginning the cycle a certain date. The first task would be to complete Chaper 1, Declarations and Access Control... say in 7 days time. So day 1 sprint 1 would cover Identifiers & JavaBeans (Objectives 1.3 and 1.4). Day 2 sprint 2 would cover Declare Classes (Exam Objective 1.1). Day 3 sprint 3 would cover Declare Interfaces (Exam Objectives 1.1 and 1.2). Day 4 sprint 4 would cover Declare Class Members (Objectives 1.3 and 1.4).
Whether or not it is realistic to cover all sprints in 1 day or 2 or 3 the important part is that at the end of the sprint you have accomplished the goal. Each day the group would meet to discuss how each member was doing and provide encouragement to those members having trouble keeping up as well as to discuss questions about the material. At the end of the initial sprints would come one sprint which dealt with Two-minute Drill and another with the Q&A. It might be a good idea for the members to use other mock exam sites as well as the questions at the end of the chapter.
After the group finished with the first chapter (sprint cycle) to move on the next. It might be a good idea to build into the sprints a review of past chapters by going over the Two-minute Drill (retrospective).
I'll do some more work on how this might be setup in Google Groups but maybe there is already an Agile Project Management site with some of the facilities to do this?
Your ideas are good and i can plan out the schedule if everyone comes up with their dates of exam. But i would rather
prefer sticking to the same group, because here, there are mentors to monitor and can help us clarify our doubts. What
do you think guys?
I really liked your idea.
Thanks Prithvi for offering to plan a schedule. Prithvi, I didnot understand what you mean by the same group?
As I mentioned in my previous message my target date is the last week of November. I don't mind for an earlier date if I am done with my preparation.
I mean same group mean, lets stick to ranch and create flashes for for our targets. Another solution can be
to create a small Yahoo Group and startup with the preparation, but our first and foremost target will be java
ranch for information and help. What do you guys think. I will make up a study plan if other people are coming
and interested to share their exam dates.
Java Ranch is surely a best place for help and information. But I think it would be better to create another yahoo group for the study and post our questions in the ranch.
What do you say?
This all sounds good. I would probably be looking to take the exam at the end of November or beginning of December. I will give my best efforts to keep up with the group if you decide to move faster. I agree that we should post questions to Java Ranch. You'll need to help me get set up with yahoo group. ACB
All sounds positive uptil now. I will just create a Yahoo Group and post the link here. We need to make sure
we don't leave our rancher family because of the group. I am very much associated to this forum.
Join the group give at my signature, but please make sure, we are not leaving ranch. This is the place where we will
be tightly coupled. The reason for the group is just to give study plan and discuss deadlines.
