Has anyone had any problems lately with amazon.com? I am having problems placing orders, looking at placed orders etc. I have been using this site for few years now and never that so much problem with it before, but lately I see We are Sorry...!! Error page most of the time I try to view my orders.
I hope they realize they are about to losse a customer here and do something about it. This is just too frustrating, I am having second thoughts about using this site any more.

Amazon just launched their new a9 search engine; I wonder if your problems might be related to that. Perhaps their engineering resources are stretched thin, or at least distracted, due to this new venture.
Remember the prime directive of JavaRanch -- be nice. It's OK to vent at Amazon, but leave innocent people out of it, please.

I placed the order to buy two books on Amazon today, -- didn't have any problem.

I remember some newscast a while ago mentioning that Amazon competes with Microsoft for developer talent up in Washington. So, most likely it's mostly built on .NET "stuff" -- unless there's some secret office in Richmond with a bunch of Java guys in it.

Amazon.co.uk gave me error 500 (processed, in a nice amazon-way) a number of times when I tried to look up the status of something that I bought two weeks ago (should have been delivered by now, but still waiting for postman Pat!)

From what I've been told it's a mix. It's not monolithic on any one technology.

You may want to read this update from Microsoft.

In the last few weeks you might have experienced difficulty logging on to secure Web sites or completing transactions on the Web. You might also have noticed more HTTP 500 internal server error messages.
If you have been experiencing these problems recently, then your computer might have a recent security update installed (Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer MS04-004) that changes how Internet Explorer sends information to the Internet. Some secure Web sites do not work well with this security update and might cause you to experience the problems above.
To fix this problem, you should download and install the following software. For additional information, see Knowledge Base article 831167.

In related news, I sent two items to an Amazon friend as birthday gifts that were eventually returned as undeliverable. I got a full credit refund and all that, but it took quite a while for them to come back, and it wasn't possible to track them while they were out in the shipping system somewhere. So Map gets no birthday presents from me and she has no idea what went wrong. What up?

Good one, Eugene. Yes, I had that 'cumulative security fix' installed. I have updated everything again, and should be okay now, hopefully!
PS: Apparently, the item that I ordered was posted from UK on 25th March and it took 25 days to reach Dublin, instead of usual 3 days!

I sent an e-mail gift certificate as a present (very imaginative!). It never arrived. I checked and double checked the address (we mail each other all the time), Amazon sent it again, same result so I got a refund. Very, very strange. First time I ever had a problem and still don't know where the fault lies...

Perhaps Map moved to avoid the stalkers?
