Whoever came up with the concept of "off-white" should be drawn, quartered, burned, ground up, molded back into his original shape, and then shot repeatedly with a blunderbuss.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

If I were President, my first act would be to issue a Presidential Order making off-white illegal. Henceforth, all white paint would be required, by law, to be *(&^$*&^*&^$ white! Next, I'd try to push such a resolution through the U.N.

Can you tell I've taken the week off to work on the house?

That was my guess, yes. Are the paint fumes getting to you already?

Of course no white paint is truly white in a mathematical sense so under your proposed law white paint would become illegal as a consequence

A white opaque object is devoid of all color, white light is the presence of all colors. If you shine all colors on something with no color... you get white... right?

Now you mix a little "off" in the white and then you repeat the experiment... ok... so what color is "off" anyway?

When I was a kid (100 or so years ago) I had a job painting new houses in a new development. Every single house was painted "Antique White". After a few days of that I was so sick and tired of that color that even today I cannot tolerate it. Even @ 16 I couldn't understand why anyone would put new paint on a new wall in a new house that looked old and yellow.

So you have my vote... no "Off White"! When do we march on Washington?

My friend who was doing her pharmacy graduate course, one day got bored of her same old blue jeans. She took a handful of shocking pink nail polish or some such stuff, they were making in the lab, and rubbed it all over her knees and walked the town gleefully.

... just trying to help

My color vision just isn't all that good, I guess. I can't tell the difference between six different shades of white, but I can see when I've put the wrong flavor of off-white next to some existing off-white. In any case, I have a dozen cans of different off-white paint, all of which are needed to maintain my home and its contents. It's criminal.

Of course, I've got a suit that I've worn to funerals, convinced it was black; one day I saw I was holding a genuinely black plastic camera while wearing it and realized the suit was very dark blue. Again, violent torture is called for.

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet, plus black and white. To paraphrase Happy Bill, "that ought to be enough colors for anybody." *

* Yes, yes, I know, he never actually said that. Yeah, yeah, whatever.

I am sometimes forced to believe there IS a relation between human gender and colour-differentiation-ability. I wait with a straight face as long as i can afford to, when my husband turns the wardrobe upside down looking for his "Black sweater" which is in fact a very nice shade of dark green.

Sorry Ray, i love Off-Whites, i own a few outfits in different shades of off-whites

Pink knees ? Anytime !

I'm afraid I stand with Ernest.

There are only seven colors, not counting black and white which are well... never mind... its not important!

I have dark blue pants and black pants and dark blue socks and black socks. You would think that once in a while I would get it right by accident... you would think. Invariably, my wife will say... "Why are you wearing those socks, they don't go." and I will stare stupidly at my feet and say... "huh?"

There are times that I think they are all the same color and my wife is playing a very cruel joke on me! :

Ray, just think about finding a pair of shoes you really love - so much that you buy a pair in both black and blue. Imagine showing up at your well-lit workplace & realizing that you're wearing ONE OF EACH!'

Been there.

Magnolia is a very nice shade of off-white that blends beautifully with blue , shades of pink, or green, lavender. Well everything.
It's a safe choice. Here magnolia is the same colour as fresh double cream.

not knowing enough about black could leave you feeling blue.

Hold on, you lost me already. Buy two pairs of the same shoes? I haven't bought new shoes in tens years. I just keep getting new soles and heels for the old ones. Too bad we don't have a graemlin for :cheapskate:

You're assuming that I would notice.

You're thinking of "magenta" I'll bet. If you saw the movie "Magnolia" you would remember what color they are!
