Target store is amazing

Not that this is the first time I am shopping there.

But I am impressed with what they provide for the price they charge on many items.

That includes furniture, kitchen utensils, kids and adults clothing. The kind of quality they provide for the price is great.

If they also carry groceries(like in super target near my house) nothing can beat that too.

I agree that Target is awesome and they have brilliant marketing execs. Whereas Wal*Mart literally makes me feel physically ill, I really enjoy going to Target. Their stores are clean, bright, and attractive; their merchandise is stylish, well-made, and inexpensive; and there always seems to be something I really need just sitting there on the shelf everywhere I look. It generally costs me $100 every time I go through the door there, no matter what I've gone in for.

Walmart should be called Guetto-Mart. They are finally building 2 Super Targets here in town and I can't wait until they open.

I agree on the pricing in general.

But, I stopped buying(or decreased I shoud say) groceries in super walmarts because their shelf life after buying is much less than those bought in other grocery stores.

So with respect to groceries I don't see any value proposition from walmart.

And Walmart fruits tend to be horrible.

Well, after using walmart groceries for many years came my feedback.

I agree that if you buy cabbage, cauliflower they can stay good for longer time. But the fruits get stale very fast when I buy in walmart. So the money I save on other groceries gets nullified. That is my complaint.

I like Targret more again because of aesthetics, overall feeling when you roam around the store. Of course they have good deals sometimes (I am not a big shopper and lazy to gather coupons and all but..anyways)..

It is also of worth to note that Walmart is known to employ some pretty questionable buisness practices. And by pretty questionable I mean morally abhorent. Not to instil meaning or anything.

I like to look at the stock PEG ratio (price per earning per growth) -- the lower, the better. Target looks a little more favorable to WalMart (PEG of 1.19 vs 1.4). That is, WalMart is somewhat overvalued compared to Target. How about playing the spread -- sell WalMart short, go long Target. Don't tell your financial adviser about it, though.

always make sure you get the real deal when shopping walmart or similar.
Quite often the "great deal" you get turns out not so great when compared with other offerings.

As an example, last year (or was it late 2002) someone I know went shopping for a new digicam.
He found the cam he wanted at a photography store for some $100 more than at walmart.
But when comparing the content of the boxes it turned out the walmart offer lacked several crucial items together costing more than the "savings".
For example there was no memory card included (the full set came with a 32MB card, at the time priced at about $40) and no batteries (the full set contained a battery and charger together costing almost $100 when sold separate).

There are other examples, and produce nearly gone stale is a good one.
Canned goods near the sell-by date are another way walmart and its ilks save money. They buy up lots of goods other stores won't touch because of their age at next to nothing.

Here is where I shop :

Groceries etc : Safeway (You will find these mainly on the west coast).

Inexpensive clothes etc : Kmart (Of course the mall looks like a godown, but you get to save a lot of money)

Electronics : Almost always online

Merchandise : Walmart
