A debate is inappropriate and I will not engage into one. I will however explain why it is my belief that all such posts are beneficial. I believe it is right for people to be informed of all the options available so they can make their
own decisions. Independent thought is most important. The OP states he finds HFSJ quite "beginner" for his needs, but is more comfortable with the traditional textbook style of Manning. The more advanced niche he looks for is that covered by my book and I am confident that it would act to educate and inform in the manner intended. I am not
recommending the book as I am not impartial, but I have a firm belief that once potential readers have all the options at their disposal, they have the intelligence and will do the research necessary to make up their own minds (for example, by investigating other reader's reviews). By and large, authors write books because they want to contribute to the field in which they write, helping people to understand, develop and enrich their knowledge. That is precisely the same reason I spend my time helping others with a wide variety of their problems on the Ranch. Here, I am trying to help the OP in making their own decision; if they choose to ignore me totally, I will not complain and I certainly won't "push it" further.
I will not engage in any further discussion on this issue and I trust Christophe will moderate this
thread if he feels any of its content is inappropriate. However, I think it is wrong
not to inform people of the options available, or to insinuate that people who ask questions here are incapable of making their own decisions.
Good luck to the OP with whatever he chooses (P.S. you may also find the
SCWCD Links useful in the unlikely event you haven't seen it already
).
