You know, that's not a fair assertion. Some of us just are taking the exam later than others.

Ya Theodore, I know some people are taking it late. But I also know some (at least one guy apart from Victor) who have taken the exam but don't help us regarding the topics to concentrate on etc...

Well I wish , other people be as good as Victor in this aspect...

Thanks to Victor again !

I would appreciate to see a good review from somebody else than me. Specially if this person is good enough to pass the exam (i.e, not me).

I think you being a bit harsh here.

  • Ultimately it would be most beneficial for Sun Education/Certification if only practitioners of the relevant technologies take the beta exam as that would give them a better insight into which of their objectives/questions are "unnecessary" or "inappropriate". Results from beta exams from people who are learning about web services technologies for the first time aren't actually of that much value to them. Once the real exam goes live the objectives become "canon" and that is really the time for "learners" to use them - of course at this point the exam is no longer free.
  • Basically the beta will have to go on long enough so that they can get enough results from "experienced practitioners" so that they can decide on a relevant set of "objectives" and "questions".
  • Most likely the majority of the "experienced practitioners" that are taking the beta exam don't even frequent this forum. They have no reason to come to this forum if they were not "hanging out" here before - they know some of the technologies already and already have the requisite skills to find and digest the relevant Sun Articles and white papers (and other third party material). They are going to do their own studying, possibly with some co-workers.
  • That means that this forum will mainly attract people that are new to web services and that are looking to score a certification on a free exam. Some may be capable of covering all the objectives during the time that the beta is open - however preparation times for SCDJWS 1.4 cited by neophytes suggest that the majority of neophytes this time around will not have enough preparation time to pass the beta exam successfully (there are always exceptions).
  • Those people who do help out may not even be taking the SCDJWS 5 beta or have any intention of ever taking the SCDJWS 5. They are people who are "web services enthusiasts", people who have been preparing for the SCDJWS 1.4 for a while and are staying their course and people with SCDJWS 1.4 who continue to "hang out". Current SCDJWS 1.4 holders may not intend to go for the SCDJWS 5. I for one feel that the SCDJWS 1.4 gave a good solid foundation that would enable me to use the newer technologies effectively if I had to - at the same time I don't feel compelled to scramble and learn about all of the SCDJWS 5 objectives to score a SCDJWS 5 certification. This is mainly due to the fact that after all the hype WSDL/SOAP actually seems to have less relevance than was initially hoped. And while still useful it actually isn't essential in a service-oriented environment.
  • The SCDJWS 1.4 wasn't all that popular to begin - and that didn't have much to do with it being "outdated". I suspect that there are very few pure web service developer positions out there. In most cases people who use these technologies don't focus on web services. Their solution requires a "web service interface" as one of a long list of features. So they learn the minimum necessary to realize that feature and move on. These people have no time or inclination to study the whole catalog of SCDJWS objectives - web services are incidental for them, they have no fundamental interest in web service technologies (the fact that the quality of the web service solutions suffer is a different topic). So it is not unreasonable to believe that the SCDJWS 5 won't be that popular either - even more so if current SCDJWS 1.4 holders decide that the "upgrade" is not worth it.

    Peer,

I agree with your points but the whole point of having a forum and also Sun people asking us to register for the exam is that they get many many feedbacks and are able to design the exam correctly.I think Sun is smart enough to know which questions are basic and which are advanced and the sole purpose of beta is to get a view of technologies which people are actually using.

I guess mostly everyone here has worked on Webservices but they wont be the master of everything (Security/WSIT etc) . So then many few people should be giving the exam.

Even I work on Webservices but that does not mean I use WSIT as well as JAXR/UDDI . But still I will gather feedback about the exam and prepare for these topics. If I dont ask people in this forum then where else I should be asking for help.

I agree with you that SCDJWS 5 wont be as popular as SCJP ever since there are very few people who work on Webservices.
