today i passed the scwcd 5.0 with 98%. (only 1 answer was wrong)

To my experience:
before 3 months i passed the SCJP 5.0 exam with 95%. After that i began the preparation for this exam (means about 3 months of preparation ). In this time i had many private things to do, so i was not concentrated the hole time on this exam.

Now i can say: 1 to 1.5 months are needed for this exam.

Books:

I began with the preparation with the "Sun Certified Web Component Developer Study Guide (McGraw-Hill Osborne)". I studied with this book until chapter 7. In chapter 8 i noticed that the stuff in this book is not enough and sometimes wrong.
In chapter 8 i was so bothered by the mistakes and the weakness of explanation so i changed and began to read the oreilly head first book.

Although at the beginning i was not excited to read the HeadFirst book because of the disturbing pictures inside. But when i began to read the book i noticed the great difference of expertise in both books. What i missed in the headfirst book are the 2-min drill (from the McGraw-Hill Osborne book) which sometimes involved valuable information.

In summary: i would surely take the "O'Reilly, Head First Servlets and JSP 2nd Edition" and would look at the 2-min drill of the other book ONLY (too much mistakes and wrong information).

Some topics are not clear enough in both books. So i would look at some other stuff. For example "taglib"-directive: after i tested a little bit i opened a special thread in this forum for this purpose,

and here is the link: taglib - summary

good luck for you all.

-Now i am attacking the SCBCD certification-

Hi Salah Lejmi

Greet work and good score well done!!!
Hope you will attack next target (SCBCD) also...
Tell something about exam content like performance based question, did you get lot of code based question instead of theoretical stuff?

yes, my next attack is the SCBCD certification.

about the content of the exam: 3 to 6 Questions in every topic
3 or 4 Questions about J2EE pattern
more than 5 Questions about API-Knowledge:Which method to use to get context parameter, can context parameters set programatically,
Valid EL Expressions
Valid JSP Standard Actions
Some Questions about JSTL
Some Questions about Spec: What should a web container support or NOT.
....

Folks, with such great scores, what is your real-life experience programming like? You surely deserve a chance at this, having learned the material so well, but are you currently a developer?

You got it. I am programming with java for many years. I worked as a java web-developer for 4 years. And i really prepared well for the exam: Much testing and i repeated a 276-question-exam-collection 3 times. At the third time i had almost no wrong answer.

But i must tell you something: about 70% of the knowledge was new for me. So i needed to prepare the stuff like any other and test really much. But the key for that is: it was fun

You should "attack" the SCJD, this will give you some leverage.
