Whats the best computer game you played?

I guess so the best computer game i played is GTA-3

This game is amaging and lets you around a couple of cities. You can shoot, kill, drive, bash up, race, use boats, tanks and so many other things.

Its been quite some time since i got my self updated with other arcade games around. What are the other games that fancy you?

I still play it even today, if I play a newer game ,I would have to start out as an newbie.

I like playing compstomp(seven play agianst one computer to get an easy win and points) but I would not allie up so the game does not end when the computer is killed. So it is up to everyone to find out who is the backstabber who has not allied up. Fights would start as everyone blames everyone else. I would send secret messages to other players to incite the violence. If the other players is weak enough and few in numbers I would attack all of them at once, and they would cus bad word. If my attack fails I like groveling for mercy, only to get another try at hitting their ass.

Clearly youre all sick in the head because you havent mentioned any of these two games yet:

Civilization III,
Alpha Centauri.

These games are like crack cocaine to me. Once you start a game up, its difficult to put down 6 or 7 hours later. I always uninstall them after a couple of games, but find myself coming back to them 6 months later.

Best FPS's ever. Yes you heard me right, Master Chief, BEST FPS's EVER!

World of Warcraft.

My current addiction :-) Although Ive told myself I'll quit when my Paladin hits level 60. Aroundabout that time, Im sure Blizzard will release an expansion and raise the level cap, and then Im screwed.

The Marathon Trilogy bungie released for the mac before MS bought them out. Like Halo but with a much deeper, complex and interesting story line, came out at the same time as doom and doom 2 and were years ahead. I think you can download them for free these days, along with an opensource project aimed at updating the engine.

I'd certainly agree with the Civ games being up there with the best, and I've spent many an enjoyable afternoon playing multi-player Half-life (counter-strike).

Medieval: Total War has been known to eat up a large amount of my spare time, and rather embarrassingly I also have a liking for football management games.

I can go one step further - I have never owned a games console, or hand held games thingy at all. No megadrive, no nintendo, no gameboy. Once this was a cause of some mirth for my console owning friends. While they were playing Sonic etc I was stuck with Prince Of Persia and Commander Keene.

At the time I used to say to them "the future of gaming is the PC, one day its games will be better", and I think that has been proved true. While consoles have nice graphics, its PCs which offer far greater flexibility. The fact that some consoles have become more PC-like is a reflection of this.

Team Fortress Classic, Warcraft 2, and Dark Reign all chewed up many hours of my time. The Civ games were great as was Heroes of Might and Magic 2 in the turn-based strategy department. A shout-out also has to go to the game that started the whole real-time strategy craz: Dune 2.

If I want to set the wayback machine for 20 years ago, I'd have to go with the old Infocom games. From maybe about 15 years ago I would also need to mention the game that got me into turn-baed strategy games: Empire Deluxe.

Dang.. I though if you play in Atlantic, we could go for a group hunt .

There are so many changes to the game in the last 1 year. First came Samurai empire (ninjas and samurais) and now comes the Mondain legacy (Elves race). I never read original dungeons and dragons story and don't participate in PvP, so, nothing bothered me . But I see so many people complaining about the new changes in stratics website. So many people left to play WoW.

Before this game, I was totally addicted to Age of Empires. I was in a pretty good clan called "Unarmed". Not sure whether it still exists.

i also addicted to AoE before. i know game has become a profound field, there are a lot of books teaching you how to win a game. there are even world tournament. i am a casual player, just for fun. my strategy is "economy first", i normaly have all 25 lives as villages all the way until i decide i want to destroy enemy. but this stretegy won't work at hardest level. enemy come at you too fast. occasionally i have a small special force at beginning, to attack enemy, the result is exceptionally well.

but it took way too much time, if you want to have fun, i think you should play online game, play other human players.

Icebreaker

A cute shooter/puzzle game. It was originally made for the 3DO console and then ported to the Mac and PC. The game is addictive in the "waste an hour or two every night" way, not the "play for twelve hours straight" way.

Hmm, actually i spent much time playing Age of Empires in teams in network.
When i get bored at work i play backgammon and when i am nervous or hopeless, i play bejeweled because the sound "excellent!" makes me feel better

My strategy in AOE is to start with a good economy and build that economy.I dont build an army initially and therefore concentrate on buliding up as much resources as i can .Once im comfortable on the resoures side i then start buliding the army.

However if the game is set to tough then i lose because the PC attacks very fast and at that point of time im just buliding my resources.

The longest strech i have played is 8 hrs

I havent tried playing on a network.

Now there was a game which came close to being a classic. Although it did start the trend for some great games, it suffered from a slightly dodgy interface - the lack of ability to group units made controlling a large long range attack very clumsy. Despite that, it was awesome. The first game I played which came on more than one disk!

What made it all the more fun was an editor I found for saved games. It represented the map as a grid of ASCII characters which could be edited to modify it - units, terrain etc. You could also use to do crazy things like give yourself control of the sandworms (instead of the normal "attack", "move" etc, they just had four "attack" buttons). The ability to customise individual battles to that detail made it very good indeed, and its a shame this was missing from later derivatives like C&C and TA.

Unreal Tournament 2004 - the darn thing is 5GB to install, but worth every bit (no pun intended)

GTA, Quake 3, and other old favs are Need for Speed Porche 2000 and MS Flight Simulator.

Can't agree more. I, and some colleagues, used to play it at a client site (their idea, not ours I hasten to add). This particular company were a bit "challenging", and it was so cathartic to end the day blasting the people made your day so difficult.

They never twigged why they kept loosing when playing team games against us was largely down to the fact that one of our developers had mocked up company branded skins for their team and ours. Their company colours contained bright orange and white. Ours were a sort of dark blue-grey. They never saw us coming

If you have good internet connection, you should try online. It is fun. I liked the max resource - no build time or 20 mins build time options (we used the map with no resources). You should try the first option if you are really good and quick at this game, the attack will start with in a min the game starts. I knew a bug to crash the client in all the connected players machine. I have used it few times

Tough call...Counter-strike will probably be the game I will remember as being the most addictive.

But there were plenty of good ones already mentioned in this thread.
