I have tried a lot by all the possible ways, but I can’t wakeup early.

I can only wakeup 45-60 minutes before the time I have to leave my flat.

This problem is since the beginning.

I want to read, I want to do yoga, I want to join gym, I want to prepare breakfast, but I can’t because I can’t wakeup early.

I believe it is laziness + lack of strong determination + lack of strong desire + …..

How to overcome this problem?

Anybody is facing the same problem?

Buy a loud alarm clock, put it away from your bed so you have to get up to turn it off.

Go to bed earlier.

I tried this for years, but I stop the alarm and sleep again.

Even during the hostel period, I used to put mechanical alarm in bowl so that it makes more noise, but result is same – I stop alarm and sleep again.

I can’t sleep early and if by any reasons I sleep early, I wakeup at the same time.

Another option is to ask somebody to splash cold water on your face. You should ask them that if you don't get up within ten minutes after putting off the alarm, they will splash cold water on your face gently. This should work.

Put your laptop in your oven and set the oven timer to start the same time your alarm clock goes off.

If that doesn't motivate you, nothing will

Hey,I too suffer from the same problem. But most of the time i get up when my alarm goes off.The only way to solve this is to have strong determination to get up at the specified time.It is all in ur mind.It is coz of your laziness.Try to wake up one day and it will not seem difficult for you to wake up the following days.Try it.

This can't work for me.

Neither I have laptop nor the oven.

If I would be waking up early since the studentlife, I could be having both today.

Set up the timer on your PC to play some songs with deafening sound.Your PC must be placed at other end from the place where you sleep.

... But why you need to get up early!!

Reading, yoga and gym can be possible in evening. Breakfast should take maximum 10 minutes.

When you go to sleep ask someone to move ahead the hour hand on your alarm by an hour, so when you wake up thinking it is time you would have woken up atleast one hour earlier.

It worked in my case, for a day atleast but I doubt it will work in your case now that I told you how it works .

Hi all,

BRIEF: Once I was watching DD-Sahyadri (eventhough being Gujarati, sometimes I watch Marathi too), where bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was addressing people on the eve of Marathi-awards-festival. He was saying people about his success and giving credits to his father, Late Mr. Harivanshrai Bachchan, who has asked him to learnt few lessons in life, one of them was - to wake-up early in the morning! Amitabh confessed that his busy schedule is not allowing him to follow this regularly, but, for sure, he always keeps this in his mind. What I would say is, if you win the morning, you win the day!

ROOT: Now, a million dollar question comes... Why we never wake up early in the morning! Well, the reason is, we all have aims in our life, but, unfortunately we do not focus properly on our aims! My former boss Mr. Helmut Otto used to tell me that - we all set priorities in our life! If we reach home late night at 2AM, and somebody offers us to play cards, for sure we will deny, but, if your spouse askes for love, I doubt how many will deny (compare to denying card-playing-event)! It is really all about setting priorities, we set high priority to laziness compare to music, morning-walk, exercise et al.

REMEDY: The people who are having wider interests, suffer from this, while the people, who are having few but deeper interests, never move their focus! Just develop deeper interests (and please donot stop them widening!) and the joy is along-with you... for ever.

Why I am writing all these to you is because, even I have started morning walk since last 5 days! :-)

Hope this works for all you guys...

Any comments, suggestions are welcome on my personal id - devang_joshi@ml.com

Regards,
Devang.

Hi Chetan,

there are three solutions:
1) Get married
2) Wait till you become old enough to get up in the morning (say 35-65).
3) Accept the fact that you are not morning-person.

I cant talk about first two but the third one has dangerous after affects. You tend to keep you all assignments in the evening like Yoga classes, gym etc.

Have ever tried to sleep at 9:30pm -10:00pm ?? You would get up by 6:30am - 7:00am (obviously with the help of Alarm clock).
Better by a alarm clock with snooze feature.(if you want to get up at 7:00am then put alarm of 6:15am).
Much better to have 3-4 alarm clocks placed at diferent places with 5-10 min time difference.(all with snooze feature, if you are in India then it would cost you around Rs.175-215/- each. This Rs 500/- is worth investing for people who cant get up in the morning).

There are more people who have not evolved with time so wait till whole world evolove. Till then you have to be morning person(who can get up in the morning and be active whole day)

just do it for one month, sleep before 10 and get up by 7.
Now start shifting your time to what time you want to get up... Note sleeping time is still before 10pm.

After 6-8 months even if you can sleep at 12:00am you would get up whatever time you want

All The Best

Sleep on a railway track where, after 12 night, first train runs around 6-7 a.m..

You will surely get up in time and will have no regrets and in case you can't get up, you won't get a chance to regret.

You have motivated me.

I guess I have to take charge of myself and need to have strong determination of change. Change may not come tomorrow, but it can always come in the time period of 2-3 months.

Thanks a lot.

According to research ,people who are not married face a strange problem. The harmones get hyperactive at sometime about 2-4 am in the morning. They wont get sleep during that time and they just cant sleep how much ever they try. Only when the harmone activity reduces they can get some sleep. This may make the person get up late. maybe 1-2 hour later than the normal wake up time.
they suggest marriage is the best remedy for this.
So Chetan,
couple of questions for you.
1) are you married and if no, are you loosing sleep during early morning hours?
2) if you are married, low testosterone harmone can cause sleep disorderness.

Try to make a cron job that executes a java code to make calls to your phone ( land line should be more precise ) for each 5 minutes after 6:00 or 6:30 ( what ever you wish ) you can stop this job only if you go to office & kill that process.

NO! Make the change tomorrow morning. Just get up. That's all it takes. If you want to get up when the alarm goes off, then do exactly that. It's your decision to make. NOTHING is forcing you to go back to bed. If your house was on fire, you'd be able to get up, wouldn't you? That PROVES that you really do have the ability to get up. Now that you know you CAN do it, turn that potential into action.

Maybe this will help:
A friend of mine was having trouble losing weight, until he realized that a candy bar doesn't taste as good as being fit feels. You can modify this. Put a note next to your alarm clock that says "Going back to sleep won't make me feel better than doing some yoga will." (Feel free to put in "reading a book" or "riding my bike".) If you believe that when you write the note, then you should remember that feeling when you read it in the morning (even if you're not feeling that way at that moment). If you can't believe notes from yourself, then there's nothing we can say to convince you of anything else.

Yeah there is good news.

I wake-up 45 minutes early today.

Even I did many activities in additional 45 minutes that I got. I took breakfast and I delivered a cake to friend’s friend place as today his birthday.

Thanks all.

That's GREAT!

Spurred on by your desire to get more done and my own "just do it" suggestion, I also resisted the urge to hit the snooze button and got up about 40 minutes earlier than usual. (I couldn't very well tell you to do it without at least trying it myself.) All I did with the extra time was watch the weather report on TV and wash the dishes from the night before, but it's a start.

For those who can't sleep well even if you are wrecked, keeps thinking about work when trying to sleep etc, gym (not too late) in the evening is an excellent suggestion. Avoiding tea/coffee and the like after mid-afternoon is another tip that worked for me the point is, to sleep well, you need to be tired especially physically tired. Do what you like most (jogging, gym, sex whatever) Get tired and get go to bed feeling physically exhausted you should feel great in the morning!

My friend had a clever idea for this problem. He used to drink lot of water (around 3 glass) before going to bed. At morning when alarm went off, he invariably had to go loo to unload himself. This gives him enough time to wake up fully. Try it and tell us the result.

Hey Rahul, I use same method when I have to urgently wakeup early morning. And it works for me.

But I believe that in long run, it is harmful.
