Guys
Heard of grokker.com?? Looks like Google's gonna face what it feared the most. Grokker is a gr8 visual search site with ties with Yahoo. We all know how "friendly" Google and Yahoo are.

So will mighty Google crumble... Will this David be Goliaths end...

dear god, that was the most painful search i have ever done. Not only did the application take way too long to load, but it took me way to long to find the page I wanted (go into a circle, no wait, wrong one, go back, find another circle...)

I don't think Google is shaking in their boots as of yet.

Interesting. Looks like the main idea here is to present the search results in categories. But does it tell you which are the most relevant results?

I wasn't sure about that either... I think the size of the circle may have something to do with that....

I guess grokker is trying to add some sleaze into the "boring" search engine industry. By going visual they are trading off speed.

The last time i tried Grokker (a few months back) i did not like it that much. I infact had a hard time finding relevant search results even though they were categorized neatly.

Oh yeah, lets start the grokker circle war - mine bigger than yours!

I'll give it that it's interesting. Smacks of an implementation of someone's Master's Thesis.

I don't think that there's any "danger" of this catching on will the general web population.

I just visited the site, and I did't like it. I don't think google has to worry a lot!! It takes lot of time to search a simple thing!!

Just for kicks, I did an "Ego Grok" and "grokked" my name. Out of the 9 rather large circles I got, I finally found 3 squares that actually actually pointed to me, somewhere in the General Circle. All three of these were rather old (from my undergrad years). Ego searching with google is MUCH more promising!

Grouping search result is a nice idea. But for now, using "grokker" is like using "laser cutter" to cut potatoes. Will check back in couple of years.

Its too slow.

It has an applet and at my end firewall required username/password/domainame entered for running any applets.

Might be I am new to UI of grokker, but I searched for caching java object on both google and grooker.

And I found google's result more useful.

I feel that its dificult now to break the market of google like the way it is difficult to break the market of Windows in Desktop OS.
